Summary En 1666, la Methode facile pour apprendre chanter la musique (Paris, Ballard), est le premier ouvrage imprim en France recommander l'utilisation du Si. Cette septi me syllabe de solmisation permet de s'affranchir du solf ge ancien, des hexacordes et des muances. La gamme du Si, ou gamme fran aise, s'impose comme une nouvelle norme, parall lement une actualisation du discours sur les chelles musicales, pr lude l' nonciation des principes de la tonalit . Pourtant, depuis la fin du XVIe si cle, des solmisations heptacordales essaiment ailleurs, de l'Italie au Danemark. La France semble rebours du reste de l'Europe : elle tarde r agir ce nouveau mod le et s'av re finalement tre le seul pays o le Si est int gr durablement. Quel fut le cheminement de ces id es et pratiques ? Que disent-elles des repr sentations de l'espace sonore qui coexistent et s'anamorphosent au XVIIe si cle, isthme entre Humanisme et Lumi res ? Ces questions serpentent dans la litt rature depuis que Brossard, Mont clair ou Rousseau s'en sont empar s. L' tude de sources essentiellement manuscrites permet aujourd'hui de pr ciser les jalons de cette histoire en France, de mettre en lumi re des pionniers autant que des d tracteurs du Si. Leurs t moignages sont issus de l'entourage scientifique de Mersenne, des sph res huguenotes et mauristes, des chapelles musicales parisiennes et finalement des m thodes destin es aux amateurs. C'est en questionnant ces pionniers, leurs crits et les contextes dans lesquels ils ont volu que ce pan de l'histoire du solf ge est ici mis en perspective et, d'une certaine mani re, humanis . This volume examines the cult of the saints and their associated literature in two peripheral regions of Christendom which were converted to Christianity around the turn of the first millennium, namely, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. This volume examines the cult of the saints and their associated literature in two peripheral regions of Christendom which were converted to Christianity around the turn of the first millennium, namely, Scandinavia and Eastern Europe. The fifteen authors focus on how cultures of sanctity were transmitted across the two regions and on the role that neighbouring Christian countries like England, Germany, and Byzantium played in that process. The authors also ask to what extent the division between Latin Christianity and Eastern Orthodoxy affected the early development of the cult of saints on the two peripheries. The first part of the book offers for the first time a comprehensive overview of the veneration of local and universal saints in Scandinavia and northern Rus from c.1000 to c.1200, with a particular emphasis on saints that were venerated in both regions. The second part presents examples of how some early hagiographic works produced on the northern and eastern peripheries borrowed, adapted and transformed - i.e. contextualized - literary traditions from the Latin West and Byzantium. First appearance of these two papers of seminal importence as Heisenberg and Pauli here laid the foundation , by using a new method, for the quantum field theory, and gave the ""relativistic formulation of quantum electrodynamics in the presence off charges and currents""(Pais). They were the first to attempt a general formulation of quantum electrodynamics by setting up a general scheme for the quantization of fields which they hoped would be applicable to the Maxwell field.In the papers they also introduced what is today called ""gauge fixing"", which from then on are among the precious tools of field theory.""Heisenberg and Pauli thus established the basic structure of QFT which can be found in any introduction to QFT up to the present day"" (Stanford Encyclopaedia of Philosophy).

First appearance of this founding paper in the modern theory of colour, in which Helmholtz proved the surprising fact that there are only two among the colours of the spectrum, yellow and indigo-blue, which together yields pure white, that is, are complementary to each other, whereas their combination had always been supposed to produce green.""Helmholtz turned to the intricate problems of color vision in 1852 with an attack on Sir David Brewster's new theory of light. Brewster had maintained the objective reality of three primary colors by supposing, in opposition to Newton, that there exist three distinct kinds of light, each of which excites in the eye one of the sensations red, yellow, or blue. Helmholtz regarded the theory as still another confusion of physical stimulus and subjective responce....He also revived Young's theory of color visoin...only to refute it. He had discovered that spectral colors, when mixed, always yield a duller color of less-than-spectral saturation. Therefore the whole idea that all colors may be obtained from mixtures of three primary colors must be incorrect, he concluded, for the spectral colorss, at least, can never be obtained in their full saturation by mixing any three of their number....Although Helmholtz dismissed Young's theory in 1852, by 1858 he had changed his mind and become its formost advocate. In order to save Ypoung's theory....Helmholtz asumed that Young's physiological primaries are not spectral colors att all, but colors of far greater-than-spectral saturation...""(DSB VI, pp. 246-247). Davy, who was elected to the presidency of the Society in November of that year, was primarily responsible for the fate of the paper. Although Davy was already known as an advocate of the qualitative idea that heat is molecular motion, he found Herapath’s quantitative development too speculative and complicated"" he rejected the hypothesis of an absolute temperature implying an ""absolute zero"" of cold. Having been told that his paper would not be accepted for publication in the Philosophical Transactions, Herapath withdrew it and published it instead in the Annals of Philosophy in 1821. Five years later he launched an attack on Davy in the Times of London, accusing him of circulating unfounded criticisms of his experimental work, which prevented its publication. Although Davy ignored a series of letters and challenges published in the Times, Herapath later claimed Davy’s resignation from the presidency of the Royal Society (1827) as a victory for himself.""(DSB).
