Bourguignat introduces quite a few new species of, mainly, freshwater molluscs. Small stamp of Herbert Ant on front cover and first page, margins somewhat trimmed, otherwise a good copy of this well-illustrated work.

1881 175 p., 8 plates and 2 double-paged view/sections (1 hand-coloured), contemporary half morocco with marbled boards, author/title in gilt on spine, marbled endpapers. Original printed front cover bound in. Some slight rubbing on spine and extremities of boards, else a very good copy in a nice contemporary binding.One of only 100 copies, as with most of Bourguignat’s publications. With a handwritten dedication by Bourguignat to the French anthropologist Ernest Théodore Hamy (1842-1908). Hamy was not a malacologist but he provided the French malacologist Rochebrune with shells. Rochebrune named a cowrie species after him.

This copy lacks pages 19-20 and 29-30, but the 19 century owner included hand written copies of these four pages and they are bound in. At the end are bound two extra copies each of pages 51-52 and 61-62, these apparently were faulty pages as with pencil is written on the first of these pages “Anciennes mauvaises pages refaites”

Later, De Boury turned his attention entirely to the Epitoniidae. This is an offprint from the Journal de Conchyliologie with new pagination. Boards lightly soiled, otherwise a very good copy.

''L'ouvrage se veut utile aux naturalistes et se propose ainsi de présenter un résumé concis des connaissances acquises sur ces animaux ; indiquant pour chacun ses moeurs, habitudes, emploi, types les plus répandus, les données anatomiques ainsi que la description purement scientifique de ces types''. Coupes élimées. Légers frottements affectant les mors. Petite déchirure en marge du premier feuillet (blanc). Quelques rousseurs dans le texte. Du reste, bonne condition.

Dal 1830 al 1860 curò la rivista Jahrbuch für Mineralogie, Geognosie und Petrefactenkunde' da lui fondata e poi continuata con il nome di Neues Jahrbuch für Mineralogie, Geologie und Paläontologie'.
