‎En 1958 Christophe Gevers ouvrait la brasserie "Le Cap d'Argent" a Bruxelles, dont il avait lui-meme dessine l'essentiel du mobilier et concu l'amenagement. Le public decouvrit un modernisme chaleureux, confortable, mettant en l'oeuvre des materiaux nobles et durables. L'annee suivante, Gevers dessinait sa premiere chaise pour "La Taverne des Beaux-Arts". Un chef-d'oeuvre. Les prix de Design, la proposition d'enseigner a La Cambre s'en suivirent. Christophe Gevers put alors se consacrer completement au design. Avec le meme talent, le meme sens des matieres, il realisa d'autres amenagements, brasseries, restaurants, restaurants d'entreprise, auditorium, cinemas. Restes intacts "Le Vieux Saint Martin, La Marie Joseph, Le Canterbury" temoignent toujours de son style qui n'a pas pris une ride. Une carriere etonnante, faite de succes, d'amities fideles, que ce livre retrace. ‎

More than just a critique of the death penalty, Devlin's austere, haunting images extend that critique to an American society in which 70 percent of the citizens support the death penalty. In her photographs, death row and the death chambers are symbolic of American culture and the American psyche. ‎Pieter Stockmans est ne a Leopoldsburg (Belgique) le 26 octobre 1940. Apres des etudes de sculpture et de ceramique a l'Institut provincial d'architecture et des arts appliques de Hasselt (Provinciaal Hoger Instituut voor Architectuur en Toegepaste Kunsten) entre 1955-1963, il choisit volontairement de s'orienter dans le secteur de la ceramique industrielle. Apres une specialisation en Allemagne et en France, a partir de 1966, il entame une longue periode comme designer au service de la firme hollandaise Royal Mosa. Il y restera jusqu'en 1989. Parallelement a cette activite, Pieter Stockmans enseigne le design industriel. Entre 1969 et 1998, il enseigne a la KHLim (Katholieke Hogeschool Limbug) a Genk. Entre 1983 et 1985, specifiquement ? le design ceramique ? a Eindhoven (Design Akademy Eindhoven). De 1997 a 1999, il est examinateur du tres prestigieux Royal College of Art de Londres. A la suite de son exposition au musee de Hasselt en 1981, Pieter Stockmans va doubler son oeuvre de designer d'une oeuvre de plasticien composee de pieces uniques, d'installations et d'integration a l'architecture. Cette dimension plasticienne de l'oeuvre a fait l'objet de nombreuses expositions. Pour cette raison, le Musee royal de Mariemont a souhaite par l'exposition rendre compte de la contribution de Stockmans au design industriel. Son oeuvre de designer, largement meconnue est pourtant immense et couronnee de succes commerciaux et artistiques (Red Dot Design Award en 1996, Prix Henri van de Velde en 1999.). Ainsi, pour la firme Mosa, dont il contribua au developpement, la tasse Sonja est devenue un modele d'ergonomie connu mondialement. Elle fut produite a 50 millions d'exemplaires et fut 17 fois copiee illicitement. L'exposition est accompagnee d'un catalogue de 186 pages en couleurs qui passe en revue, de facon tout a fait inedite, les dizaines de prototypes et de realisations de 1963 a aujourd'hui. Il cerne l'evolution du design de Pieter Stockmans entre sa collaboration chez Mosa et la realite du Studio Pieter Stockmans, atelier personnel base a Genk depuis 1987, ou ce dernier oeuvre aux cotes de Widukind Stockmans et Frank Claesen. L'auteur, Ludovic Recchia est depuis 2003 responsable des arts decoratifs et industriels du Musee royal de Mariemont. Specialiste de la ceramique contemporaine, on lui doit plusieurs publications et commissariats d'expositions dans ce domaine. ‎
