Timo Sarpaneva was originally trained as a graphic designer and the student assignments from his years at the Central School of Industrial Art (1940 ? 1949) have not been previously published or displayed. Less known works by him also include textile patterns and designs from the 1940s and 1950s. Added to these are paintings and graphic design by Timo Sarpaneva from the same period, 1943 ? 1956. Marten Melsen De kunstschilder Marten Melsen (1870-1947) was van Brusselse afkomst maar woonde heel zijn leven in het landelijke Stabroek. Hij verbouwde er twee aansluitende woningen en kreeg er samen met zijn vrouw 4 kinderen. De twee ongehuwde dochters en n zoon bleven in het huis wonen en hielden het in de staat zoals het was. Aan het atelier van de kunstschilder werd ook na zijn dood niet meer geraakt. In 2002 werd het huis door de familie geschonken aan de vzw Stichting Marten Melsen. 'Het Vosseveld' blijkt een van de weinige nog geheel authentieke kunstenaarshuizen te zijn, samen met bijvoorbeeld het Lijsternest van Stijn Streuvels. Het huis is dringend aan behoud en restauratie toe. Het plan is er om er een museum van te maken. Dit voorjaar werd een dossier ingediend bij de Minister van Erfgoed en werd het huis volledig ge nventariseerd door Monumentenwacht Vlaanderen. Er is echter nog veel nodig en dit mooie fotoboek kan alvast extra aandacht brengen. Een huis met een ziel Karin Borghouts bezocht en fotografeerde het huis voor het eerst in 2017. Een kleine tentoonstelling daarvan was te zien in Galerie De Mijlpaal in Knokke in 2018 en een grote foto uit de reeks was het jaar daarop te zien op het Kunstenfestival Watou. In 2022 kreeg ze de kans om nog meer foto's te maken in het huis. De fotografe werd getroffen door de zeer mooie lichtinval, de kleuren, meubelen en objecten in het huis. Anderzijds deed de woning haar ook denken aan haar ouderlijk huis dat in de vlammen is opgegaan en waarin de verzameling antieke gebruiksvoorwerpen van haar moeder zwartgeblakerde stillevens opleverden, doordrongen van jeugdherinneringen en een verlangen naar een beschermende huiselijke omgeving. Waar Karin Borghouts zich vroeger eerder focuste op publieke ruimtes en gebouwen, zijn het nu vooral persoonlijke interieurs die haar aandacht vragen. Zij brengt ze met een bijzondere gevoeligheid en met een schilderkunstig oog in beeld.

Danish Furniture Design in the XXth Century - Widely considered as the best assessment of modern Danish furniture available in English and are beautifully illustrated with historic photographs and new photographs of surviving pieces. Many of the photographs of some of the best pieces in museums and public buildings in Copenhagen appear to have been taken specifically for the book. Full-page photographs are set out facing reproductions of original presentation or technical drawings. Karlsen was an architect who worked with Mogens Koch, to whom the volumes are dedicated, and he approaches the subject through his hands-on experience as a furniture designer. The volumes provide a very readable and a very good broad chronological overview but what makes them invaluable is the addition of detailed and critical assessments of the most important and influential examples of chairs, tables and storage furniture produced through the century.
