‎"Il faut certainement se féliciter de voir paraître dans la collection « La nuit des temps », éditée par l'abbaye de La Pierre-qui-Vire, ce livre sur l'art « roman » en Terre sainte, dont le texte est tout entier de M. Paul Deschamps. Que l'auteur ait été obligé de briser un peu le cadre de la collection, qui se veut exclusivement romane, était fatal : le Crac des chevaliers est en grande partie gothique, Margat ne peut passer pour une œuvre romane ; quels sont d'ailleurs les critères qui distinguent roman et gothique dans le domaine de l'architecture militaire ? Il importe peu que le titre soit quelque peu inadéquat au sujet, pourvu que le sujet soit bien traité, et il l'est, comme on pouvait s'y attendre. Et il est singulièrement utile d'avoir, de la main d'un spécialiste éminent, un ouvrage facilement accessible où l'on trouvera des études, brèves mais précises, sur quelques monuments de Terre sainte pour lesquels il fallait se reporter à des ouvrages devenus introuvables. (...) Le texte de M. Paul Deschamps dont on voit assez l'intérêt, s'accompagne d'un grand nombre de plans très précieux et, comme il est habituel dans cette collection, d'admirables photos tant en noir qu'en couleur. Leur nombre et leur qualité réjouiront les archéologues qui n'ont pas facilement sous la main des vues de ces monuments lointains. Les éditeurs de Zodiaque n'ont pas hésité à faire le pèlerinage de Terre sainte pour cette fructueuse campagne photographique. Il convient de les en remercier chaleureusement."
