Hans Vlieghe ( 1939) studeerde kunstgeschiedenis aan de universiteit van Gent, waar hij ook enkele jaren werkzaam was als assistent. Hij promoveerde in 1967 over het oeuvre van de Antwerpse kunstschilder Gaspar De Crayer. Na diverse studie- en onderzoeksverblijven in M nchen, Londen, Firenze en Rome ging hij als wetenschappelijk medewerker aan de slag in wat nu het Centrum Rubenianum heet. Daar is hij tevens lid van de raad van bestuur en werkt hij mee aan het Corpus Rubenianum Ludwig Burchard. Sinds 1990 is hij lid van de Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van Belgi voor Kunsten en Wetenschappen. Als hoogleraar was Vlieghe verbonden aan de universiteiten van Antwerpen en Leuven. Hij is gespecialiseerd in de Vlaamse schilderkunst van de zeventiende eeuw. Naast zijn onderzoek over De Crayer schreef hij tal van publicaties over (onder meer) Peter Paul Rubens en schilders uit diens entourage, over David II Teniers en Jan Boeckhorst. Sinds 2004 is hij met emeritaat, maar dat weerhoudt hem er niet van om kunsthistorisch onderzoek te blijven uitvoeren.‎

There is neither one single model of alterity nor is 'Otherness' a stable phenomenon, but it changes over time and according to the cultural context. All this calls for methodological reflection and needs thorough investigation. ‎Het Rotterdamse architectenbureau van Herman de Roos (1875-1942) en Willem Overeijnder (1875-1941) gold in de eerste helft van de twintigste eeuw als een van de bekendste en grootste van de stad. Na de oprichting van het bureau in 1895 timmerden ze aan de weg met herenhuizen in de modieuze neorenaissancestijl en gezondheidskolonies. Twee grote woningbouwprojecten in Arnhem ? tuindorp De Mussenberg en de Van Verschuerwijk ? betekenden in 1911 landelijk een doorbraak. Die resulteerde in opdrachten voor het Rotterdamse Tuindorp Vreewijk en voor tuindorpen in onder andere Wageningen, Veendam en Assen. Voor de Rotterdamse havensector ontwierp het bureau zowel rijkgedecoreerde kantoorgebouwen als utilitaire fabriekshallen. Het monumentale kantoorgebouw Petrolea in Den Haag werd uitgevoerd in expressieve baksteenarchitectuur met een art-deco-interieur. Daarnaast bouwde het bureau in Rotterdam enkele scholen, het Sportfondsenbad en het iconische ?Kasteel?, het stadion van voetbalclub Sparta. Als bekende Rotterdamse architecten werden ze uitgenodigd voor de prestigieuze prijsvragen voor het stadhuis, de beurs en de Bijenkorf. Herman de Roos en Willem Overeijnder bouwden een aantal nog steeds gezichtsbepalende gebouwen, terwijl hun landelijke betekenis ligt in hun bijdrage aan de volkswoningbouw. Dit boek geeft voor het eerst een uitgebreid overzicht van hun oeuvre en een beknopte schets van hun leven. Han Timmer studeerde in 1988 af aan de Rijksuniversiteit Leiden. Hij deed architectuurhistorisch onderzoek aan het Nederlands Interuniversitair Kunsthistorisch Instituut in Florence. Zijn onderzoek richt zich met name op de negentiende en twintigste eeuw. Hij schreef artikelen over verscheidene architecten en publiceerde eerder een monografie over Henri Evers in de BONAS-reeks.‎
