‎Bon exemplaire de curieux ouvrage. Zoologue, le docteur Félix Jousseaume (1835-1921) participa à la fondation de la Société Zoologique de France, qu'il présida en 1878. Spécialiste des mollusques et des madrépores, il fit plusieurs voyages en Mer Rouge, et propose ici la synthèse des ses recherches, avec un ton très particulier, qu'il évoque dans une curieuse épitre préliminaire adressée à son livre : "Ah ! si j'avais su te donner ce mordant de nos journalistes, ce décolleté et ce parfum réaliste de nos littérateurs, ou cette éloquence fluide de nos orateurs ; tu serais acclamé et tu ferais le tour du monde sans laisser, comme tant d'autres, aucune trace de ton passage dans le cerveau amaigri de tes lecteurs [ ... ] Mais non, dans ma folie, j'ai joint à tes aliments le sophisme au sarcasme, l'ironie à l'incrédulité ; et, pour rendre ton sang plus artériel, j'ai infiltré dans tes veines la synthèse, l'analyse, la logique et la philosophie. Aussi, au lieu de faire de toi un être aussi banal que normal, jen'ai créé qu'un monstre que l'on pourra prendre en pitié avant de lui faire subir la honte du dédain, derrière lequel l'envie se cache bien souvent". Rare ainsi bien relié.‎
