‎Summary In spite of its importance, Theodore Anagnostes' Church History has attracted only little scholarly attention so far. To a large extent, we still rely on the assertions of philologists and historians from around the turn of the 19th to the 20th centuries, and the authoritative edition of the text is still the one published by C. ‎Summary This study of the La Scala opera house uses the approaches of cultural history to explore the world of Milan's historic opera house at a crucial point in Italian History. It sheds new life on La Scala's public, its rules of attendance, management, as well as its central role in the Italian national movement (the «Risorgimento»). Based on unpublished archival sources, the book explores a world of secret gatherings, revolutionary conspiracies hatched in opera boxes, displays of power, the architectures of surveillance, and the symbolic and gendered politics of operatic performances; in this world even the central lamp of the opera house took on political significance. In the early nineteenth century, while Giuditta Pasta and Maria Malibran performed «Norma», box curtains were used for public demonstrations, keys of lateral doors were contested between the impresario and the police, and a monumental gas lamp was built and installed assembled in order to spy on the public. The central claim of the book is that a multifaceted cultural struggle was fought at La Scala. The argument is constructed through a rigorous approach to original sources and an extensive analysis of archivalmaterial. ‎Summary During his second stay in Paris (1297-1299), Ramon Llull developed an extraordinary literary activity writing 16 works, some of them of considerable length. His attention was once again focused on the presentation of the Art, either to summarize it in accordance with the new changes he had introduced (beginning with the Tabula generalis, op. 53, ROL XXVII), or to present it as a method of renewal of the particular sciences (astronomy and geometry) or as an instrument in the debate on the errors condemned by the bishop of Paris in 1277. The four works presented in this volume are examples of this activity. The Disputatio Eremitae et Raimundi (op. 76) not only represents Llull's closest approximation to the university style of studying the science of theology, based on the Sentences of Peter Lombard, but also the most radical application of his Art as opposed to any discussion fed by the exegesis of "auctoritates". In Arbor philosophiae amoris (op. 77), on the other hand, the application of the Art follows the intent of his previous Ars amativa boni (op. 46, ROL XXIX), thus revealing the intimate connection between the austerity of the artistic language and the exuberance of the contemplative language, the true hallmark of Lullian mysticism. The Consolatio Venetorum (op. 78) illustrates the innovative approach that the Lullian project offers for the moral and political life of the Church. There is no medieval Latin manuscript tradition of the Cantus Raimundi (op. 79). ‎Summary This work by Ramon Llull, originally composed in Catalan ('Art de fer e solre questions'), was written in Rome in 1295. It is also known as Lectura super Artem inventivam et Tabulam generalem, as it attempts to make the Ars inventiva veritatis (op. 44) and Tabula generalis (op. 53) more approachable. In the prologue Llull expresses his wish for this work to be translated into Latin. It belongs to the so-called encyclopaedic writings in the Lullian production, and the author announces a thousand questions related mainly to theology. The present work aims to provide a general technique applicable to any subject, a practical usage of the Ars inventiva veritatis and the Tabula generalis. In general, Llull develops some aspects dealt with in op. 44 and op. 53 in order to solve possible objections or to experiment with new procedures. It is another step in the great epistemological project of the Majorcan: to establish a new general science that overcomes the difficulties inherent in scholastic-Aristotelian science, to apply its method to the articles of the Christian faith, and to create a universal scientific system as a solid basis for the other sciences.‎
