It argues that with his Fall of the Rebel Angels (1562) Pieter Bruegel (died 1569) turned a traditional devotional theme into an innovative commentary on his own time, and situates the painting within the early modern cultures of knowledge and collecting. More particularly, it exposes that many of the hybrid falling angels are carefully composed of naturalia and artificialia, as they were collected in art and curiosity cabinets of the time. Bruegel's much noted emulation of Jheronymus Bosch was thus only part of his wider interest in collecting, inspecting, and imitating the artistic and natural world around him. This prompts an examination of the world at the time that Bruegel painted the Fall of the Rebel Angels: locally, in the urban and courtly centers of Antwerp and Brussels on the eve of the Dutch revolt, and globally, as the discovery of the New World irreversibly transformed the European perception of art and nature. ‎Meggy Rustamova?s (b. 1985) practice explores films and spatial installations, in which she incorporates photographs, essays and audio material; often the work has a performative character. Concerned with the relations between individual and collective memory, language and human behaviour, her works look for ways to translate the current matters and phenomena in the world. Being a descendant of an Assyrian minority in Georgia, phenomena of ethnicity, displacement and belonging, Meggy's mother tongue that she spoke as a child but has since forgotten, are ever present in her work. The book HORAIZON is conceived as an encyclopaedia in which the work of the past 10-12 years is listed in lemmas. The title of the book, HORAIZON, refers to the phonetic pronunciation of the English word ?horizon?, the boundary line on which the earth?s surface and the sky seem to touch. The horizon, interpreted as ?boundary? or ?line?, is equally perceptible in language, when reading between the lines, or when travelling between international borders. The works suggest a longing for what lies behind the horizon and invite the viewer to make an imaginary journey.‎

‎Bon état. Texte de l'envoi : "A mon colègue et ami G.-H. Bousquet. Bien cordial hommage." Le dédicataire était le professeur Georges-Henri Bousquet (1900-1978). Docteur en droit en 1923 avec une thèse sur 'L'évolution sociale en Hollande 1914-1922', G.-H. Bousquet reste surtout connu comme économiste proche de Pareto et Schumpeter (il connut personnellement les deux auteurs), ainsi que comme un islamisant de l'école de Goldziher et Snouck-Hugronje. Il fut notamment professeur aux facultés d'Alger puis de Bordeaux. ‎
