Nestor Perkal est un artiste polyvalent ayant multipli ses activit s depuis les ann es 70. Designer de mobilier, d'objets et de luminaires, architecte d'int rieur, sc nographe, commissaire d'expositions et directeur artistique, il porte lui seul, plus de 45 ans de savoir-faire et de recherches. Cette premi re monographie r alis e son sujet pour dessein de retranscrire ce parcours hors-norme, de la mani re la plus exhaustive possible. C'est en 1978 et tout juste dipl m que Nestor Perkal quitte sa terre natale, l'Argentine afin de s'installer en France. Il s' panouit d'abord Paris en tant que cr ateur ind pendant en ditant ses propres pi ces de mobilier. En parall le, il ouvre une galerie et est le premier repr senter Memphis. Ses cr ations personnelles sont pr sent es en 1985, l'exposition Vivre en couleurs de la Fondation Cartier. Limoges, ensuite, il est au service de l'institution publique, directeur du Craft, centre de recherche sur les arts du feu et de la terre. Une communaut artistique se fait jour autour de lui. Il collabore et entretient des relations fid les avec nombre de cr ateurs, designers, artistes, mais aussi fabricants, commanditaires et collectionneurs. Durant presque dix ans, il travaille par exemple, en bonne entente avec le photographe Didier Cazabon. The story of the illustrated book from the earliest printed books to the present day, told through the collections of the V&A's National Art Library. Throughout history, images have been used to reflect the meaning of words and to enhance our understanding of texts. With the invention of mechanized printing in Germany in the 15th century, illustrated books were no longer the preserve of the elite and became a source of knowledge, instruction and pleasure for a wider audience. Traditional accounts of the illustrated book survey its history in terms of technological advances, from illumination to hand-drawn illustrations and photography. Danish Furniture Design in the XXth Century - Widely considered as the best assessment of modern Danish furniture available in English and are beautifully illustrated with historic photographs and new photographs of surviving pieces. Many of the photographs of some of the best pieces in museums and public buildings in Copenhagen appear to have been taken specifically for the book. Full-page photographs are set out facing reproductions of original presentation or technical drawings. Karlsen was an architect who worked with Mogens Koch, to whom the volumes are dedicated, and he approaches the subject through his hands-on experience as a furniture designer. The volumes provide a very readable and a very good broad chronological overview but what makes them invaluable is the addition of detailed and critical assessments of the most important and influential examples of chairs, tables and storage furniture produced through the century.
