‎Charles Rennie Mackintosh (7 June 1868 ? 10 December 1928) was a Scottish architect and designer and one of the best-known representatives of the Arts and Crafts movement. His father was a police officer and he spent his childhood in Dennistoun, a town near Glasgow. At 16, he joined local architect John Hutchison and attended evening classes at the Glasgow School of Art. In 1889 he started working for the architects Honeyman and Keppie.‎

‎Frits Lensvelt was een veelzijdig ontwerper. Na zijn opleiding aan de Central School of Arts and Crafts in Londen, die hij in 1907 afrondde, begon hij zijn professionele loopbaan als illustrator en vormgever van boeken. Nog datzelfde jaar kon hij echter ook als decorontwerper aan de slag. Nadat hij het toneel in 1921 definitief de rug had toegekeerd, werkte hij - met de kennis die hij in het theater had opgedaan - achtereenvolgens ook als ontwerper van lampen (1926-1941) en binnenhuisarchitect (1929-1936). Het vormgeven van boeken is hij - met tussenpozen - zijn hele loopbaan blijven doen. Frits Lensvelt heeft in de periode 1908 - 1921 met zijn gestileerde, sobere en functionele decors een grote reputatie opgebouwd. In een tijd waarin ook het theater een overgang maakte van 'afbeelding' naar 'verbeelding',werd hij beschouwd als een van de allerbesten. Zijn naam ontbreekt dan ook in geen enkele publicatie over Nederlandse theatergeschiedenis. Wat daarbij altijd onderbelicht is gebleven, is dat Lensvelt, als eerste in Nederland, het belang van een optimale belichting erkende. Lensvelts verdiensten op het gebied van boekverzorging, interieurverlichting en binnenhuisarchitectuur zijn altijd onderbelicht gebleven. Ten onrechte. In deze publicatie wordt aan alle facetten van Lensvelts kunstenaarschap recht gedaan. ‎
