Première édition française. Le plus singulier des écrivains du XVIIème siècle, Thomas Brown nous livre une confession conduite selon les plus fugaces associations d'idées. Tour à tour crédule et sceptique, l'auteur y donne son opinion sur les dogmes et la morale chrétienne. Esprit avant tout tolérant, il se déclare prêt à révérer toute autre religion. Sa curiosité s'étend à toutes sortes de choses : des anthropophages, des Esprits, du combustible utilisé en Enfer... Il demande la liberté de se laisser guider par sa seule raison, pour tout les sujets sur lesquels l'enseignement de l'Eglise n'apporte rien. Le livre a été mis à l'Index. Joli frontispice gravé. By turns credulous and skeptical, the author gives his opinion on Christian dogma and morality. A tolerant spirit above all else, he declares himself ready to revere any other religion. His curiosity extends to all kinds of things: cannibals, spirits, the fuel used in Hell... He asks for the freedom to be guided solely by his own reason on all subjects on which the teachings of the Church offer nothing. The book was placed on the Index. Attractive engraved frontispiece. This monograph introduces the sixteenth-century Louvain artist Jan Rombouts (c. 1480 - 1535), whose oeuvre was previously assigned to Jan van Rillaer. Debates concerning Rombouts's identity are explored in detail by means of reinterpretation of published archival documents and the discovery of numerous new documents. The publication of the sources, most with full transcriptions, provides a sound basis for the author's arguments supporting the new identification.The remaining oeuvre of the artist, as it is known today, comprises engravings and paintings. This monograph argues for the expansion of Rombouts's oeuvre with some dozen stained-glass windows, roundels and a drawn design for a church window, while suggestions are put forth for other possible attributions. Attention is given to the historical context for Rombouts's activity as a glass painter, and the attributions of these works, none of which are monogrammed, are made by comparing their style with that of works securely attributed to the artist. This section is backed up by numerous illustrations of the windows, many of which are quite inaccessible. Finally, a discussion of archival sources concerning the Louvain confraternity of St Luke and commissions for works of art to local artists in the period covered by the book, form the rich historical background against which Jan Rombouts executed his oeuvre of engravings, paintings, roundels and stained-glass windows. The size, individuality, diversity and craftsmanship of this oeuvre enable us to finally identify and place him securely within the history of south Netherlandish art of his time. New book.

Paul Tombeur a, pendant les nombreuses annees de son enseignement a l'Universite Catholique de Louvain, a Louvain-la-Neuve, ete un professeur extraordinaire, passionne, exigeant, stimulant, curieux... Plusieurs des medievistes qu'il a formes se sont reunis pour lui rendre hommage. De maniere tres diverse, mais toujours a partir de textes latins, puisque la diversite chronologique et thematique du latin est tres chere a Paul Tombeur. Avec Augustin et Gregoire, Odon de Cluny, Hugues de Saint-Victor, Etienne Langton, Thomas d'Aquin..., mais aussi Gautier de Therouanne, Honorius Augustodunensis, les commentaires liturgiques du XIIe s., les chartes francaises ou flamandes, c'est bien un latin tres divers qui est ici mis a l'honneur. Et qui l'est de maniere tres diverse, puisque les contributions portent sur la theologie, la philosophie, l'hagiographie, la liturgie, la langue, le droit, la diplomatique... Un autre point commun entre les auteurs de ces Melanges est que, comme Paul Tombeur, ils ont mis au coeur de leur recherche et de leur reflexion le texte, et plus encore le mot. Qu'ils etudient le plus souvent a l'aide des bases de donnees informatisees (Cetedoc Library of Christian Latin Texts, Thesaurus Formarum...), dont ils montrent a quel point elles peuvent renouveler les etudes medievales.

I afhandlingen afbilder den ene planche af stjernehimlen kometens bane, som den blev iagttaget i København fra begyndelsen af oktober 1807. Blandt de detaljerede beregninger og beskrivelser af kometen indeholder afhandlingen også en paragraf hvori Bugge forsøger at eliminere frygten for de skadevirkninger kometen kunne forsage. Om sandsynligheden for et sammenstød med Jorden skriver Bugge:""man kan vædde Qvadratet ef et uendeligt stort Tal imod een, at Jordens Sammenstød med en Comet ej nogensinde vil indtræffe.""
