‎Panorama op de wereld - Het landschap van Bosch tot Rubens biedt een overzicht van de ontwikkeling van de landschapskunst in de Zuidelijke Nederlanden van omstreeks 1500 tot 1675. De traditie die daar werd gevormd ging vooraf aan het typisch Noord-Nederlandse realistische landschap dat in de zeventiende eeuw, mede onder invloed van het Zuiden tot bloei kwam. De verbeelding in de Zuid-Nederlandse landschapschilderkunst wordt gekarakteriseerd met begrippen als fantastisch, evocatief en panoramisch. In de zestiende eeuw waren zulke landschappen betekenisdragend: in de voorstellingen werd de symboliek van het landschap gepresenteerd in relatie tot een historisch, in het bijzonder bijbels of mythologisch onderwerp. In deze context wordt het landschap gezien als symbool voor de wereld, analoog aan het leven van de mens. Aan de basis van deze traditie staat de kunst van Jeroen Bosch, wiens dikwijls raadselachtige landschappen de inspiratie vormden voor tal van latere ontwikkelingen. ‎Hans Memling's altarpiece for the high altar of Santa Mar a la Real in N jera (1483-1494) must have been one of the most spectacular Flemish art works in the Iberian Peninsula. Only three panels survive in the Antwerp Royal Museum of Fine Arts : God surrounded by singing and music-making angels. The retable?s central theme was the mystery of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin. The iconography of the whole has been described by Jovellanos at the end of the 18th century. They focus on the complex role of the Holy Virgin, her triumph and glorification. It was a common belief that she was the only human to have borne up bodily into heaven. ‎Tussen de platanen aan de Nijmeegse Paul Krugerstraat waan je je in een andere wereld. In de jaren vijftig is hier een opmerkelijke wijk gerealiseerd. Aan de toenmalige stadsrand ontwierpen de Amsterdamse architecten Evers & Sarlemijn een stedelijke woonwijk met een mediterrane sfeer: de Afrika- en Bouwmeesterbuurt. Deze buurten boden voor elke levensfase een ander woningtype. Portiekflats en de gezamenlijke wasinrichting waren nieuwe fenomenen in een tijd van grote woningnood. Ook de robuuste architectuur met poorten, zuilen en smalle ramen was spraakmakend. Het in baksteen gegoten optimisme van de jaren vijftig verloor langzaam zijn glans. Een halve eeuw later was de bevolkingssamenstelling veranderd, het wooncomfort gedateerd en de openbare ruimte sleets. Sloop hing in de lucht. Dit was het begin van een succesvol overlegtraject tussen woningcorporatie Portaal, de gemeente Nijmegen en de bewoners. Een traject dat heeft geleid tot de status van beschermd stadsgezicht, heringerichte straten en pleinen en een revitaliseringsproject dat de Architectuurprijs 2010 van de gemeente Nijmegen kreeg. De schoonheid van het alledaagse gaat in op de ontstaansgeschiedenis en de monumentale kenmerken van deze wijk, maar ook op het doorlopen proces en de creatieve ontwerpoplossingen.‎
