Edizione del 1847 delle celebri biografie scritte da Izaak Walton (1593-1683). L'autore in questo volume raccoglie le biografie di John Donne, Henry Wotton, Richard Hooker, George Herbert, Robert Sanderson. Il testo è impreziosito da sei tavole fuori testo (cinque rappresentano i personaggi delle biografie e una le riproduzioni delle loro firme) incise da Bromley, Finden, Engleheart, Warren, Raddon. Ma la verà particolarità di questo esemplare è il "fore-edge painting" o "disegno a scomparsa", un dipinto sul taglio delle pagine che appare solamente tenendo il blocco di pagine tra il pollice e il resto delle dira e piegandolo in modo da allargare leggermente il bordo. Appaiono i dipinti dei personaggi descritti nell'opera. Da chiuso il volume sembra un normalissimo libro dai tagli dorati. Questo rende quest'opera unica. Questa tecnica era molto popolare verso il XVIII secolo per raggiungere il suo culmine fino all'inizio del XX secolo. In buone condizioni. Copertina in pelle con titolo in oro e decorazioni a secco ai piatti in discrete condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Lievi rotture alle cerniere. Legatura in buone condizioni. All'interno le pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con rare fioriture. In 8. Dim. 20x13 cm. Pp. XIV+(2)+453+(1).Edition of 1847 of the famous biographies written by Izaak Walton (1593-1683). The author in this volume collects the biographies by John Donne, Henry Wotton, Richard Hooker, George Herbert, Robert Sanderson. the text is enriched by six out of text plates (five represent the carachetr reproduced and one the reproduction of their signature) engraved by Bromley, Finden, Engleheart, Warren, Raddon. But the real particularity of this work is the "fore-edge painting", a painting that appears only with a folding of fore edges. When closed the book is a common tome. In the book the portrait of people described in the biographies. This makes this work a unique book. This technique was very popular duraing 18th century to reach its peak to the beginning of 20th century. In good conditions. Leather cover with gilted title and decorations in the spine and embossed decorations in fair general conditions lightly worn in the extremities. Light cracks in the hidges. Luc Peire (Brugge, 7 juli 1916 - Parijs, 7 februari 1994) was een Belgische kunstschilder met internationale faam. Peire kreeg zijn opleiding aan de Kunstacademie in Brugge, het HISL in Gent en het Nationaal Hoger Instituut voor Schone Kunsten in Antwerpen. Zijn eerste werk stond onder de invloed van Constant Permeke en hiermee kon hij als deelgenoot worden beschouwd van de Brugse School. Niet voor lang echter. Na de Tweede Wereldoorlog evolueerde hij naar een expressionistische en constructief-abstracte kunst, waarin het verticalisme domineerde. Van 1952 tot 1955 verbleef hij in Belgisch-Congo. Bij zijn terugkeer was zijn expressie zuiver abstract geworden.
