Ce volume de bibliographie linquistique de l'ancien occitan, recouvrant les annees 1983-1997, temoigne de l'interet porte aux etudes occitanes. Nous avons pu reunir ici environ 2100 publications concernant la linguistique de l'ancien occitan, en plus des quelques 900 comptes rendus. Par "ancien occitanes" nous entendons la periode qui prend sa fin vers le debut du XVIe siecle, bien au-dela de 1350, date a laquelle le periode classique de la langue aurait pris fin. Notre optique se veut large: L'"ancien occitan" comprend donc l'ancien provencal (la koine des troubadours), l'ancien gascon, et les diverses varietes medievales (languedocien, auvergnat, limousin, etc.). Nous n'avons neglige ni le catalan medieval dans son rapport avec l'ancien occitan, ni d'autres langues qui se sont trouvees en contact: francais, italien, espagnol, basque, ainsi que le ligurien, le gaulois, le francique, et le latin. De ruim vierhonderjarige Universiteits-bibliotheek in Leiden heeft in de loop der eeuwen vele bijzondere collecties verworven. In dit boek schrijven conservatoren en fellows (uitgenodigde wetenschappers) over een bepaald aspect van de collectie. Het zijn korte en ruim geillustreerde bijdragen. Voorbeelden van auteurs en onderwerpen zijn: Paul Hoftijzer over prenten van Rome, Geert Warnar over tekstverzamelingen in middeleeuwse handschriften, E.P. Wieringa over een Javaans vademecum uit 1888, H.P.H. Horstmanshoff over een Galenusuitgave verschenen in 1531 in Venetie, O. Bakich over de correspondentie van de Russische dichter Pereleshin, P. van Sijpensteijn over de papyri in de Oosterse collecties. De ruim dertig bijdragen in dit boek geven niet alleen een beeld van de rijkdom in de magazijnen van de bibliotheek, maar ook van de ontwikkeling van de wetenschap. Nieuw boek.

Executed in Southern Italy in the firt half of the 13th century, it is beautiful illustrated in vibrant body colour with plants, animals and scenes of medical treatments, faithfully drawn after late antique models.
