‎Charmant album comportant 25 dessins de fleurs finement aquarellés. Au XIXème siècle, lart du dessin et laquarelle est très pratiqué dans laristocratie et la bourgeoisie, particulièrement par les jeunes femmes. Chacun des feuillets contient le nom de lespèce légendé à lencre brune avec ses différentes caractéristiques représentées les unes à côté des autres: pistilles, pétales, tiges, bourgeons Sont représentés: fuschia, pivoine, rose de la malmaison, aubépine, bleuet, liserons, hortensia, camélia, coquelicot, dahlia, pied dalouette, géranium, giroflée des murailles, yacinthe, jasmin, lilas, reine marguerite, muguet, mère de famille, renoncule, myosotis, pavot des jardins, pervenche, pois de senteur et rose trémière. Travail dune grande finesse exécuté sur papier vélin. 1 vol. 12mo oblong (110 x 185 mm) of : 25 watercolor enhanced drawings of flowers (except the last one) with their names in brown ink. Contemporary black cardboard imitating galuchat, smooth mute spine, title in gold on the first plate. Charming album with 25 drawings of flowers finely watercolored. In the 19th century, the art of drawing and watercolor is a common practice of the aristocracy and bourgeoisie, especially by young women. Each sheet contains the name of the species captioned in brown ink with its different characteristics represented next to each other: pistils, petals, stems, buds ... Are represented: fuschia, peony, malmaison rose, hawthorn, cornflower, bindweed, hydrangea, camellia, poppy, dahlia, larkspur, geranium, wallflower, yacinth, jasmine, lilac, queen daisy, lily of the valley, mother of the valley, buttercup, forget-me-not, garden poppy, periwinkle, sweet pea and hollyhock. Work of great finesse executed on wove paper.‎

‎Bel ensemble de dessins originaux consacrés à l'Afrique du Nord, réunis dans un album. Exécutés au crayon, à l'encre ou à l'aquarelle, ce sont pour la plupart des portraits de la population locale. Parmi eux : La plupart sont des portraits et certains sont légendés au crayon : Riati, musicien, Mallem, Caïd, porteur d'eau. D'autres représentent des scènes de vie diverses. Vraisemblablement réalisés sur le vif par un voyageur, ils sont pour la plupart finement exécutés par un artiste amateur anonyme. Intéressante iconographie, en parfait état. 1 vol. 4to oblong (213 x 305 mm) of: [24] ff on which are pasted 24 original unsigned drawings including: 17 in graphite, 2 in ink, 4 in watercolor and 1 wash. Later clasp binder, fawn basane spine, cloth covering the boards. Beautiful set of original drawings dedicated to North Africa, collected in an album. Executed in pencil, ink or watercolor, most are portraits of the local population. Among them: Most are portraits, and some are captioned in pencil: Riati, musician, Mallem, Caïd, water carrier. Others depict various scenes of life. Probably taken on the spot by a traveler, most are finely executed by an anonymous amateur artist. Interesting iconography, in perfect condition.‎

‎[Circa 1850] 1850 1 vol. in-8° (245 x 155 mm) et 2 vol. in-4° (280 x 215 mm) de: 325 espèces dalgues réparties sur 161 planches accompagnées d'importants descriptifs manuscrits. Demi-marocain rouge à coins, plats recouverts de papier marbré, dos à nerfs orné et titré, percaline bleue estampée à froid, titre doré «Album pour collection» et orné avec encadrement sur le premier plat, dos lisse.‎

‎Impressionnant alguier dauteur inconnu regroupant un total de 325 algues. Tel quannoncé sur la page de titre, ces espèces ont été prélevées sur le littoral de Royan en Charente inférieure. Ce travail colossal est divisé en deux partie: une première intitulée «Notions élémentaires sur les algues marines» et une seconde intitulée «Collection et description des plantes produites dans le présent opuscule». La première partie qui se veut être un cours introductif à la botanique algues est divisée en 4 chapitres: «1. Recherche et récolte des algues», «2. Traitement et application des plantes», «3. Définition des algues marines, leur structure, leur mode de reproduction et de nutrition», «4. Généralités sur les algues marines, leurs couleurs, leur formes, leur utilité et leur rôle dans la nature», «5. Collection et description des plantes produites dans le présent opuscule». La seconde partie, beaucoup plus longue, est quant à elle dédiée aux spécimens prélevés dans les environs de Royan. Lensemble est organisé en classe (ex: «Les Frondosées»), tribus (ex: «Les Ulvassées»), genres et espèces (ex: «Chondrus crépu, Chondrus crispis»), le plus souvent avec nom vernaculaire et scientifique. Les 325 spécimens bien conservés et titrés sont disposés en regard dune description très complète. Lensemble est écrit à lencre noire dune écriture très lisible et paginé. Half red moroco with corners, boards covered with marbled paper, spine ribbed and titled, cold-stamped blue percaline, gilt title "Album for collecting" and decorated with framing the first plate, smooth spine. Impressive alguier of unknown author gathering a total of 325 seaweeds. As announced on the title page, these species were collected on the coast of Royan in the lower Charente. This colossal work is divided into two parts: the first entitled "Basic notions on marine algae" and the second entitled "Collection and description of the plants produced in this booklet". The first part, which is an introductory course on seaweed botany, is divided into four chapters: "1. search for and collection of seaweeds", "2. treatment and application of plants", "3. definition of seaweeds, their structure, reproduction and nutrition", "4. general information on seaweeds, their colors, shapes, usefulness and role in nature", and "5. collection and description of the plants produced in this booklet". The second part, much longer, is dedicated to the specimens collected in the vicinity of Royan. The whole is organized in classes (e.g. "Les Frondosées"), tribes (e.g. "Les Ulvassées"), genera and species (e.g. "Chondrus crépu, Chondrus crispis"), most often with vernacular and scientific names. The 325 well-preserved and titled specimens are arranged opposite a very complete description. The whole is written in black ink in a very legible handwriting and paginated. Remarkable work well preserved and carried out with application.‎

‎Bel exemplaire, frais, de ce premier volume de ce célèbre almanach qui paraitra jusqu'en 1815 et sera plusieurs fois réédité. Il comporte la liste précise pour l'année écoulée (1751) de toutes les pièces de théâtre qui ont été jouées dans les théâtres parisiens les plus renommés, comme la Comédie Française, la Comédie Italienne et l'Opéra. Il précise « les trois jours de parade pour la comédie Françoise sont le lundi, le mercredi et le samedi. Cest pour ces jours-là que lon réserve les meilleures pièces ou les pièces nouvelles ». L'Almanach contient également des notes sur les uvres et sur le théâtre en général, une liste des comédiens et musiciens travaillant actuellement à la Comédie, et des extraits tirés de plusieurs drames. Nice and fresh copy of this first volume of this famous almanac which will be published until 1815 and will be reissued several times. It includes the precise list for the past year (1751) of all the plays that were performed in the most famous Parisian theaters, such as the Comédie Française, the Comédie Italienne and the Opéra. He specifies "the three days of parade for the Comédie Française are Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. It is for these days that we reserve the best plays or new plays (translated from French)". The Almanac also contains notes on the works and on the theater in general, a list of actors and musicians currently working at the Comédie, and excerpts from several dramas. ‎Une des dernières réglementions sur la production des cartes à jouer prise avant la révolution. Rappelant létat de la législation en vigueur concernant la production et la taxation des cartes à jouer, le texte comporte en outre un « Etat des villes ou sa majesté veut et entend que la fabrication des cartes soit restreinte ». Instaurés en 1583, Les droits sur les cartes seront abolis le 2 mars 1791. Cependant la loi du 9 vendémiaire an VII [30 septembre 1798] et l'article 80 de la loi du 5 ventôse an XII [23 février 1799] rétablissent les taxes dont la perception est confiée au service des contributions indirectes. Il faudra attendre le 1er janvier 1959 pour que l'État supprime la taxe sur les jeux de cartes, remplacée par la TVA. 1 vol. in-folio (250 x 200 mm.) of: 7 pp., [1] blank page. Recalling the state of the legislation in force concerning the production and taxation of playing cards, the text also includes a "State of the cities where his majesty wants and intends that the manufacture of cards be restricted..." (translated from French). Established in 1583, the rights on cards were abolished on March 2, 1791. However, the law of 9 Vendemiaire Year VII [30 September 1798] and article 80 of the law of 5 Ventôse Year XII [23 February 1799] re-established the taxes, the collection of which was entrusted to the indirect taxation service. It was not until January 1st 1959 that the State abolished the tax on card games, which was replaced by the VAT.‎

Harry et Caresse Crosby (ex-libris doré rectangulaire en maroquin vert contrecollé sur le premier contre-plat, blason doré au centre du premier plat). Estelle Doheny, seconde épouse du magnat du pétrole californien Edward Lawrence Doheny (1856-1935), débute sa collection de livres au milieu des années 1920, manifestant un goût marqué pour les livres à tranches peintes et elle constitue une collection de manuscrits et de livres imprimés rares réputée, comptant parmi les plus célèbres bibliothèques privées des Etats-Unis, collection dans laquelle bibles et livres religieux tenaient une place importante. Son ex-libris de maroquin ovale, est orné d'un encadrement de style Renaissance (coquille en tête et mascaron en queue), avec linscription dorée « ex libris * estelle doheny ». Harry et Caresse Crosby fondèrent la Black Sun Press à Paris en 1927, qui influença la publication des premiers ouvrages d'un certain nombre d'écrivains, dont James Joyce, D.H. Estelle Doheny, second wife of Californian oil magnate Edward Lawrence Doheny (1856-1935), began her book collection in the mid-1920s, showing a marked taste for books with painted edges, and she built up a collection of manuscripts and books renowned rare prints, counting among the most famous private libraries in the United States, a collection in which bibles and religious books held an important place. Its oval morocco ex-libris is decorated with a Renaissance style frame (shell at the head and mascaron at the tail), with the golden inscription ex libris * estelle doheny. Harry and Caresse Crosby founded the Black Sun Press in Paris in 1927, which influenced the publication of the early works of a number of writers, including James Joyce, D.H. Lawrence, Ezra Pound, Ernest Hemingway Caresse Crosby, born Mary Phelps in (1892, New York-1970, Rome), is an American columnist, sculptor, poet and woman of letters, notably famous for having participated in the invention of the bra in 1913.‎

‎Charmant Coran minuscule imprimé sur un très beau papier bible. Le texte est imprimé à l'encre noire et encadré d'un triple filet avec plusieurs bandeaux pour les titres des parties. Il semblerait qu'à la fin la table soit celle de toutes les Sourates. Bel exemplaire dans sa reliure d'époque, trés frais. 1 miniature vol. (37 x 24 mm) of : 353 pp. Full garnet Moroccan, gilded motifs stamped on the boards, leather strap clasp, bakelite-rimmed burr held in place by a silk string serving as a bookmark, ornate smooth spine, gilt edges. Charming tiny Koran printed on beautiful bible paper. The text is printed in black ink and framed by a triple fillet with several bands for the titles of the parts. The table at the end appears to be that of all the Suras. A fine copy in its period binding, very fresh.‎

‎Superbe dessin au lavis d'encre représentant une scène de vie d'un arsenal vers 1800.En France, le dessin de marine est une tradition qui remonte a la fin du XVIIe siècle. La constitution d'une flotte militaire de premier plan sous l'impulsion de Louis XIV et de son ministre Colbert pousse des marins à devenir artistes afin de représenter ces navires de façon plus réaliste que les scènes nautiques dues aux artistes généralistes dalors. Au XVIIIe siècle, des dessinateurs de marine tels que Nicolas Ozanne (1728-1811) et son frère Pierre (1737-1813) poussent cet art à son plus haut niveau. Leurs dessins sont gravés et illustrent les traités de navigation, de construction navale ou d'histoire maritime. Le présent dessin, exécuté dans les années 1800-1820, nest pas signé. Il présente la finesse et les qualités des travaux des Ozanne et est certainement l'uvre d'un de leurs élèves ou d'un continuateur de cet art qui connait d'autres maitres actifs au XIXe siècle tels que Jean Jérôme Baugean (1765-1830) ou Léon Morel-Fatio (1810-1871). Au premier plan de dessin exécuté au lavis dencre se dresse limposante étrave dun navire déjà gréé, prêt à la mise à leau. Au pied, sur le plan incliné, un charpentier portant un madrier nous donne une bonne idée des dimensions de cette unité. Au second plan, une barge aux formes rondes, portant un mat de charge et un cabestan, est amarrée devant un second navire à moitié gréé, à quai face à des bâtiments darsenal aux toitures de tuiles qui pourraient être ceux du port-arsenal de Toulon. Des silhouettes saffairent sur son pont et une chaloupe amarrée a sa poupe semble le faire manuvrer. En arrière-plan à gauche, un troisième navire est représenté toutes voiles dehors, létrave pointée vers lentrée du port. Au fonds se dessine la silhouette de hautes collines ou montagnes. Lartiste a intentionnellement représenté chaque détail des pièces de bois constituant létrave du premier navire : chaque clou maintenant le bordage aux membrures est même représenté. Ce dessin était probablement destiné à illustrer un traité de construction navale. Nous avons trouvé des dessins très similaires dans le traité du gréement de Pierre-Alexandre Forfait (1752 - 1807), publié en 1788 1 sheet (192 x 270 mm), drawing in black ink wash. (Some light stains or foxing). Superb ink wash drawing representing a scene of life in an arsenal around 1 800. In France, maritime design is a tradition that dates back to the end of the 17th century. The constitution of a leading military fleet under the impetus of Louis XIV and his minister Colbert pushed sailors to become artists in order to represent these ships in a more realistic way than the nautical scenes due to the more generalist artists of the time. In the 18th century, maritime designers such as Nicolas Ozanne (1728-1811) and his brother Pierre (1737-1813) pushed this art to its highest level. Their engraved drawings illustrate treatises on navigation, shipbuilding and maritime history. This drawing, made in the years 1800-1820, is unsigned. However, it presents the finesse and qualities of the works of the Ozannes and is certainly the drawing of one of their students or of a continuator of their art who knows other masters from the 19th century such as Jean Jérôme Baugean (1765-1830 ) or Léon Morel-Fatio (1810-1871). In the foreground of this drawing executed in ink wash stands the imposing bow of an already rigged ship, ready for launching. At the foot, on the inclined plane, a carpenter carrying a plank gives us a good idea of the dimensions of the ship. In the background, a round-shaped barge, carrying a load mast and a capstan, is moored in front of a second half-rigged ship, at the quay facing the arsenal buildings with tiled roofs which could be those of the port-arsenal from Toulon. Silhouettes cluster on its deck and a rowboat moored at its stern seems to be maneuvering it. In the background to the left, a third ship is shown with full sails out, the bow pointed towards the entrance of the port. In the background, the silhouette of high hills or mountains emerges. The artist intentionally represented every detail of the pieces of wood constituting the bow of the first ship: every nails holding the planking to the frames are even represented. This drawing was probably intended to illustrate a treaty on shipbuilding. We found very similar designs in Pierre-Alexandre Forfait's Treatise on Rigging (1752 - 1807), published in 1788.‎

L'un d'eux est daté du 6 novembre 1869: Bédouin devant un temple antique, lettré un livre à la main devant une mosqué, paysan, marchand d'étoffe, jeune homme assid en tailleur. 5 original watercolors on J. Whatman paper dated 1865 (watermark) of various sizes (234 x 154 mm, 183 x 194 mm and 3 at 305 x 245 mm). Arranged in an antique flap cardboard. Pleine toile rouge moderne, titrage en long sur cuir rouge et étui, et un cahier broché.‎

‎Très bel ensemble de plus de 200 dessins à caractère ethnographiques, hommage à la célèbre revue de voyage « Le Tour du Monde » (1860-1914). Ce travail dune grande finesse, certainement luvre dun illustrateur professionnel de lépoque, constitue un vibrant hommage à cette célèbre revue ou furent publiés de nombreux récits dexploration : Le « Tour du monde » est un hebdomadaire français qui publie, à partir de 1860, des récits de voyage de haute qualité littéraire, mis en images par quelques-uns des plus remarquables illustrateurs et xylographes de lépoque. Entièrement dédié aux voyages et à l'exploration, Il décrit en détail la plupart des grandes expéditions qui ont marqué à la fin du XIXe siècle et au début du XXe, dernière grande période d'exploration du globe par les voyageurs occidentaux. De nombreux récits y sont publiés en première parution avant édition sous forme de feuilleton. Ses cinquante années de parution couvrent une période allant de la découverte des sources du Nil (début des années 1860), à la conquête du Pôle Sud (fin 1911). Le Tour du monde mêle textes et illustrations, au début des gravures sur bois, qui furent progressivement remplacées par des reproductions de photographies à la fin du XIXe siècle. Lauteur des présents dessins, fasciné par cette revue, a constitué ce florilège à partir de récits de voyages et explorations en Afrique, en Asie, en Amérique, au Moyen 0rient et en Europe Il interprète avec talent les statiques gravures sur acier et calligraphie leur légende, utilisant alternativement la mine de plomb, lencre de chine, le lavis d'encre et parfois une encre de couleur pour réaliser plus de 200 dessins répartis sur 72 feuillets, avec jusquà une dizaine de dessins par page et des dessins à pleine page ou sur double page. Very beautiful set of more than 200 ethnographic drawings, homage to the famous travel magazine Le Tour du Monde (1860-1914). This work of great finesse, certainly b a professional illustrator of the time, constitutes a vibrant tribute to this famous magazine where numerous exploration stories were published: Le Tour du monde is a French weekly which published, from 1860, travel stories of high literary quality, illustrated by some of the most remarkable illustrators and xylographers of the time. Entirely dedicated to travel and exploration, it describes in detail most of the major expeditions which marked the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th, the last great period of exploration of the globe by Western travelers. Many stories are published there in first publication before being published in serial form. Its fifty years of publication cover a period ranging from the discovery of the sources of the Nile (early 1860s), to the conquest of the South Pole (end of 1911). « Le Tour du monde » combines texts and illustrations, initially wood engravings, which were gradually replaced by reproductions of photographs at the end of the 19th century. The author of the present drawings, fascinated by this magazine, has put together this anthology from travel stories and explorations in Africa, Asia, America, the Middle East and Europe. He interprets the static steel engravings and calligraphy with talent. their legend, using alternately graphite, Indian ink, ink wash and sometimes colored ink to produce more than 200 drawings spread over 72 sheets, with up to ten drawings per page and full-page or double-page drawings. ‎Rare exemplaire de ce travail dinstruction relatif aux inondations et débordements des rivières dû au conseil dagriculture du ministère de lintérieur en lan IV (1796), rédigé par les citoyens Cels et Gilbert, membres du conseil et de linstitut national. Ces phénomènes naturels qui touchent les prés ont pour conséquence principale daltérer tant la quantité que la qualité du foin et donc la nourriture des animaux domestiques. Cels et Gilberts présentent dès lors leur démarche en début douvrage: On connaît peu en général les principes daprès lesquels on doit se conduire dans ces sortes dévènements, qui ne sont pas toujours aussi malheureux que semblent le croire plusieurs cultivateurs ; et les procédés que lon suit presque partout se ressentent plus ou moins de cette ignorance. Il est donc nécessaire de bien connaître, avant tout, les effets des débordements des rivières sur les prés.. Les deux auteurs subdivisent ainsi leur travail en 4 parties : I. Effets des débordements des rivières sur les prés. II. Mesures à prendre pour les récoltes de foin dans ces circonstances, et moyens dy suppléer. III. Dangers pour les animaux qui se nourrissent des foins vaseux. IV. Précautions et remèdes contre dangers. Rare copy of this work of instruction on flooding and river overflows due to the agricultural council of the Ministry of the Interior in Year IV (1796), written by citizens Cels and Gilbert, members of the council and the national institute. The main consequence of these natural phenomena affecting meadows is to alter both the quantity and quality of hay, and thus the feed available to domestic animals. Cels and Gilberts set out their approach at the beginning of the book: "There is little general knowledge of the principles according to which one should conduct oneself in these kinds of events, which are not always as unfortunate as many farmers seem to think; and the procedures that are followed almost everywhere are more or less affected by this ignorance. It is therefore necessary to know first and foremost the effects of river overflows on meadows". The two authors divide their work into 4 parts: I. Effects of river overflows on meadows. II. Measures to be taken for hay harvests in these circumstances, and means of compensating for them. III. Dangers for animals feeding on muddy hay. IV. Precautions and remedies against dangers. A well-preserved copy in publisher's cover of this little work combining agronomy, ecology and animal medicine.‎
