Hij haalt daarin veelvuldig zijn collega architecten aan en met name ook zijn grote voorbeeld uit de oudheid, Vitruvius. Reeds twee delen uit een reeks van drie publicaties zijn in een nieuwe vertaling verschenen. De oorspronkelijke tekst is in het Italiaans en was in de Gouden Eeuw van groot belang voor onder meer de bouw van de Amsterdamse grachtengordel. Om die reden is destijds ook al een aantal boeken van Vincenzo Scamozzi vertaald in het Nederlands. Voor het eerst verschijnt de serie ook in het Engels.
