In his day, it was common among scholars to Latinize or Greekize a name. "Schwarze Erde" (black earth) became in Greek: "Melan chthon." Melanchthon was a classicist and theologian and played a role in the Reformation, alongside people like Luther and Calvin. He was an educator at heart and one of the founders of modern education in Europe. He founded schools, designed curricula and training, and renewed education in Germany in numerous ways. He built a strongly humanist-oriented school system in the Lutheran world. Because of this fact, he was also called "the Educator of Germany"(Praeceptor Germaniae). The Groningen chronicler Abel Eppens was a student of Melanchthon. In 1530, he drafted the 28 points of the Confessio Augustana, which became the creed of all Lutherans in Germany. It was imposed by the Lutheran princes on their subjects, so that after the religious peace of Augsburg in 1555, one can speak of a single German Lutheran community. Two museums are dedicated to Melanchthon, namely the Melanchthon House, his residence in Wittenberg, and the Melanchthon House in his birthplace of Bretten. Because of his great influence on the school system and his ideas on education, several schools have been named after him. ‎

He is widely celebrated for his series of paintings inspired by unconventional perspective. On road journeys in the United States, he took hundreds of snapshots that he could later use as source material for his canvases where he would focus on one detail. These details might include a section of the road, the curb receding into the perspective of the image, or cracks in the surface, and almost always an interplay with shadows; a displaced tradition of the Flemish landscape. Today he reworks recurring features in his previous paintings, a vocabulary that continues to recombine into new compositions.‎

Il est mort à la bataille de Mühlberg an der Elbe, en Saxe, une victoire de Charles Quint sur les troupes protestantes. ‎Rare first edition of Lüders early work on gardening and agriculture. Lüders himself explicitly described his book as a kind of pedagogical experiment aimed at the peasants. In an attempt to make the content more digestible for them, the book was written in dialogue form as a long series of questions and answers about the cultivation of, among other things, flax, potatoes and clover. Lüders’ hope was that the book would be distributed to the peasants and that through reading it, they would be convinced to abandon their 'misguided notions' and 'old preconceived opinions' and be encouraged to try out new cultivation methods. Philipp Ernst Lüders (1702 - 1786) was a Protestant pastor in Munkbrarup and provost in the Glücksburg provostry, an educator, an agricultural reformer of the Enlightenment era and one of the first agricultural economists.
