‎Louise Bourgeois - Freud's Daughter‎

‎, Yale University Press, 2021 Hardcover in decorative slipcase with dust jacket , 156 pages, ENG. edition, 290 x 230 mm, NEW !. ISBN 9780300247244.‎

‎An exploration of the art and writing of Louise Bourgeois through the lens of her relationship with Freudian psychoanalysis. From 1952 to 1985, Louise Bourgeois (1911?2010) underwent extensive Freudian analysis that probed her family history, marriage, motherhood, and artistic ambition?and generated inspiration for her artwork. Examining the impact of psychoanalysis on Bourgeois?s work, this volume offers insight into her creative process. Philip Larratt-Smith, Bourgeois?s literary archivist, provides an overview of the artist?s life and work and the ways in which the psychoanalytic process informed her artistic practice. An essay by Juliet Mitchell offers a cutting-edge feminist psychoanalyst?s viewpoint on the artist?s long and complex relationship with therapy. In addition, a short text written by Bourgeois (first published in 1991) addresses Freud?s own relationship to art and artists. Featuring excerpts from Bourgeois?s copious diaries, rarely seen notebook pages, and archival family photographs, Louise Bourgeois ? Freud?s Daughter opens exciting new avenues for understanding an innovative, influential, and groundbreaking artist whose wide-ranging work includes not only renowned large-scale sculptures but also a plethora of paintings and prints.‎

‎Louise Bourgeois - To Unravel a Torment‎

‎, Voorlinden / Glenstone Foundation 2018, 2018 Hardcover, 212 pages, English / Nederlands , 305 x 245 mm, book in new state, with coloured illustrations / photo's. ISBN 9780999802915.‎

‎Celebrated for her singular contributions to 20th-century sculpture, drawing, painting, printmaking, installation and writing, French-born American artist Louise Bourgeois' (1911-2010) explorations of the human condition originated from her own lived experience. My goal is to relive a past emotion, Bourgeois explained. My art is an exorcism. Psychologically, emotionally and often sexually charged, Bourgeois' works intermingle the abstract and corporeal, the voluptuous and the distressing, to striking effect. Louise Bourgeois: To Unravel a Torment accompanies the first exhibition of the artist's work at Glenstone Museum, and features more than 30 major works drawn from the museum's collection. From her early wooden Personages to her large hanging sculptures, from suites of drawings and prints to textile works and her immersive Cells, To Unravel a Torment surveys Bourgeois' career through selected examples from her enormous body of work. Bourgeois was also a prolific writer, matching her sculptural language with reams of psychoanalytic musings on repression, symbolism and material. To Unravel a Torment also brings together never-before-published diary entries by the artist, annotated by Bourgeois scholar Philip Larratt-Smith, a contribution by art historian Briony Fer and an introduction by Emily Wei Rales, founder and director of Glenstone Museum.‎

‎Day and night, love and hate, calm and chaos, conscious and unconscious. Explore Louise Bourgeois's world of tensions and extremes in this striking new book dedicated to one of the most influential artists of the past century. Bourgeois (France/USA 1911-2010) is renowned for her fearless exploration of human relationships across a relentlessly inventive seven-decade career. Featuring more than 200 images of Bourgeois's work, a selection of her writings and dream recordings, and new perspectives on her work by filmmaker Jane Campion and writer Chris Kraus, this book reveals the extraordinary reach and intensity of her art. From her haunting Personage sculptures of the 1940s to her iconic spiders and tough yet tender textile works of the 1990s and 2000s, Louise Bourgeois: Has the day invaded the night or has the night invaded the day? is an essential guide to this singular artist and an exploration of the polarities at the heart of her art. This publication accompanies a major exhibition of Bourgeois's art presented at the Art Gallery of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia, and documents its dramatic presentation in the renowned post-industrial gallery called the Tank. It features further texts by exhibition curator Justin Paton, Bourgeois expert Philip Larratt Smith and psychoanalyst Jamieson Webster, and a richly illustrated chronology of the artist's life.‎

‎Louise Bourgeois. Structures of Existence: The Cells ‎

‎, [UK] Prestel , 2015 SOFTCOVER, 270x215mm, 288 pages, 90 colour illustrations, English edition. FINE. ISBN 9783791354071.‎

‎Expo: 27/2/2015 - 26/7/2015, Haus der Kunst, Munich. Travelling to Moscow and Bilbao. Like the majority of Bourgeois's pieces, her series of Cells are at once enigmatic and extremely personal. Constructed during the last two decades of the artist's life, these complex and sophisticated works are daring and provocative. Many are small enclosures into which the viewer is prompted to peer inward at arrangements of symbolic objects, others are small rooms into which the viewer is invited to enter. In her Cell pieces, Bourgeois uses earlier sculptural forms, found objects, and personal items that held significant meaning for her. Six Cells from throughout the series are given close scrutiny, revealing the enormous diversity of Bourgeois's vision as well as recurring themes of physical and emotional pain, voyeurism, integration, and disintegration. A section of colour reproductions includes images and details of the entire series. Together with extensive essays on the Cells' evolution and an interview with the artist's assistant, Jerry Gorovoy, this volume offers a holistic appreciation of a crucial phase in Bourgeois's highly influential career. Exhibition Itinerary: Haus der Kunst, Munich - February 27-July 26, 2015 Garage Museum of Contemporary Art, Moscow, Russia - September 2015-January 2016 Guggenheim Bilbao, Bilbao, Spain - March-September 2016 ‎

‎Louise Bourgeois - The Woven Child‎

‎, Hayward Gallery & Hatje Cantz, 2022 Paperback , 208 pages, ENG. edition, 280 x 245 mm, NEW, 180 illustrations in color / b/w. ISBN 9783775751490.‎

‎This book provides a comprehensive overview of the fabric works from the last two decades in the career of legendary artist Louise Bourgeois. ?I?ve always had a fascination with the needle,? she said, ?the magic power of the needle. The needle is used to repair damage. It?s a claim to forgiveness.? This body of work began when the artist started incorporating clothes from all stages of her life into her art, and later expanded to include a range of other textiles such as bed linen, handkerchiefs, tapestry, and needlepoint. The fabric works mine the themes of identity and sexuality, trauma and memory, guilt and reparation, and serve as metaphors for emotional and psychological states. The catalogue ? which accompanies the exhibition at the Hayward Gallery, London, and the Gropius Bau, Berlin ? features works from numerous series, including the monumental Cell installations, figurative sculptures, and abstract drawings. Louise Bourgeois (1911?2010) is one of the most influential artists of the 20th and 21st centuries, best known for her formally inventive and psychologically powerful sculptures.‎

‎Louise Bourgeois: Spiral‎

‎, Damiani Ltd, 2019 Hardcover, 84 pages, ENG, 305 x 235 x 15 mm, NEW condition !, illustrated in colour. ISBN 9788862086448.‎

‎In materials as diverse as wood, steel, bronze, latex, marble, plaster, resin, hemp, lead, ink, pencil, crayon, woodcut, watercolor and gouache, Louise Bourgeois (1911-2010) investigates every imaginable manifestation of the spiral, from graphic patterns to graphite whorls, wobbly orbits to chiseled vortices, twisted columns to coiling snakes, staircases and pyramids. The cursive blue-paper word drawings also included, in English and French, complement the purely visual works by conveying the spirit of Bourgeois' writing in extraordinary pictorial forms. Bourgeois called the spiral "an attempt at controlling the chaos. It has two directions. Where do you place yourself, at the periphery or at the vortex?" In another context, she has also stated "I would dream of my father's mistress. I would do it in my dreams by wringing her neck. The spiral--I love the spiral--represents control and freedom."‎

‎To Whom It May Concern‎

‎, Violette Editions, London, 2011 76 pagina's, 24 illustraties in kleur, 32.4 22.9 cm, hardcover, Engels. ISBN 9781900828369.‎

‎A collaboration between Louise Bourgeois and Gary Indiana pairs her beautiful colour-wash male and female torso images with his word-poems, creating a meditation on relationships, sexuality and physicality. To Whom It May Concern is one of the final projects Bourgeois completed and is an apt demonstration of the enduring power of her work. Rich pinks, purples, reds and blues describe bodies comprising swollen bellies, heavy breasts, engorged phalluses and stooped torsos in a series of pairings on facing pages. Deceptively simple in design, the varying intensity and range of colour within each figure reveals a dynamism in each repeated coupling of these headless, limbless bodies: male and female at their essential, and the relationship between the two, changing but the same. Indiana?s short, visceral but lyrical texts are interspersed throughout and form a conversation with these images, an unconventional non-narrative, part of a broader dialogue about the barrier of flesh, about desire and intimacy.‎
