Wear to extremities, most of gilting on spine worn off. The marbled paper covering the board worn off, showing the wooden boards. ‎Later edition of Chemniz’ collected works. Chemniz had lectured on Melanchthon's 'Loci Communes' from which lectures he compiled his own 'Loci Theologici', a system of theology (the first three parts of the present book). Martin Chemnitz (1522–1586) was a German Lutheran theologian and reformer who played a significant role in the development of Lutheran doctrine during the 16th century. He is often referred to as the ""Second Martin"" after Martin Luther, due to his prominence within the Lutheran tradition. Chemnitz is best known for his extensive work in systematizing Lutheran theology to which this present work is a fine example. He was a key figure in resolving theological controversies that arose after Luther's death and played a crucial role in shaping the direction of the Lutheran Reformation after Luther.‎

‎1779 120 p., two hand-coloured text engravings, 4to, paperbound (contemporary blind stiff paper covers with speckled paper spine and paper label).This very rare and beautifully illustrated work is the first large-scale iconography on shells. This part was written by Danish clergyman, Johann Hieronymus Chemnitz, after Martini's death. The text covers chapters 20 and 21, "Familie der Fischreusen" and "Anmerkungen zum Gesschlechte der Kinkhörner", and includes the 37th and 38th hand-coloured vignettes. References are to plates 122-127 but these were published separately and are not included. The vignettes show species of Babylonia, a cancellariid, and a buccinid. Uncut. Upper part of spine somewhat worn. Small old library stamp on title page. Text and illustrations very good, clean. Margins wide. Nissen ZBI, 2722.‎
