1 vol. 4to (200 x 145 mm) of: [130] ff. calligraphied in red and black ink. (Stains and small tear on the illustration of the Three Wise Men). Sumac-tanned leather on wooden boards and decorated with blind-stamped motifs, smooth spine. Impressive 19th-century Ethiopian Bible written entirely in Ge'ez. The 130 folios calligraphied in black and red ink on vellum contain 26 lines per page. The work is illustrated with seven full-page compositions in period colors and skillfully executed. These depict: the Last Supper, the Virgin and Child, Saint Michael slaying the dragon, the four evangelists, the Three Wise Men, the Coronation of the Virgin, and Saint Peter accompanied by Saint John and Saint Paul. The manuscript opens with the Book of Psalms and includes annotations in Amharic in the text. The endpapers and some margins are filled with children's sketches and what appear to be Amharic writing exercises, suggesting that the work was used for catechism purposes. The manuscript is well preserved and beautifully illustrated.‎
