‎Curieux rouleau manuscrit religieux en nuosu, langue principalement parlée au sud de la province chinoise du Sichuan par la minorité ethnique Yi. Le texte est composé de 10 grands feuillets manuscrits à lencre noire sur papier fin. Il sagit vraisemblablement dun texte religieux Yi destiné à être chanté ou incanté selon la tradition chamanique. Les Yi sont un groupe ethnique majeur en Chine. Autrefois, ils étaient désignés sous le nom de Lolo ou Luoluo, un terme qui est maintenant jugé péjoratif en Chine (luoluo signifiant "dénudé"). Avec une population d'environ 7,8 millions d'individus recensés en 2000, les Yi constituent le sixième plus grand des 56 groupes ethniques officiellement reconnus par la République populaire de Chine. Ils résident principalement dans des zones rurales et montagneuses, notamment dans les provinces du Sichuan, du Yunnan (comme dans le Xian autonome yi d'Eshan), du Guizhou et du Guangxi. Ils parlent le yi, une langue tibéto-birmane qui comporte de nombreux dialectes et qui est écrite à l'aide du syllabaire yi, cest-à-dire un système décriture où les caractères représentent des syllabes entières. Dans le cas du présent rouleau, il sagit du nuosu, un dialecte du nord de laire géographique du Yi correspondant au sud du Sichuan. La religion traditionnelle des Yi est une forme d'animisme, supervisée par un prêtre chaman appelé le Bimaw. Les textes religieux concernent donc linvocation des esprits de la nature (montagne, feu, ciel etc.) dans un but de purification, de protection ou de bénédiction. Leur système de croyances intègre également des éléments significatifs du taoïsme et du bouddhisme. Ils célèbrent plusieurs fêtes importantes, dont la fête de la torche en été, ainsi que leur propre Nouvel An. The text consists of 10 large sheets written in black ink on fine paper. It is probably a Yi religious text intended to be sung or chanted according to shamanic tradition.
