‎Recueil factice consacré au marquis de La Fayette comportant 4 textes rares en édition originales publiés dans la mouvance de son ultime et très populaire voyage en Amérique. La participation de La Fayette (1757-1834) à la guerre d'indépendance des États-Unis lui vaut une immense célébrité et une place symbolique en tant que trait d'union entre les Américains et la France et d'être surnommé « le héros des deux mondes ». Son engagement auprès à seulement 19 ans et les circonstances de son départ de France, sans l'autorisation du roi, finançant le voyage de ses propres deniers font de La Fayette le symbole du soutien français aux insurgés d'Amérique. En 1824, La Fayette a 66 ans quand il entreprend son dernier périple en Amérique. La particularité de cette tournée, pendant laquelle il sillonnera le pays, est quil a été accueilli avec un enthousiasme et une ferveur populaire qui ont duré de son arrivée à New York le 16 août 1824 à son départ le 9 septembre 1825. Le premier texte du recueil est lédition originale en Français par Dubergier de la biographie du général. Travail retraçant la carrière du héros de la guerre jusquà son voyage de 1825. Il sachève par les chapitres : « Lafayette en Amérique », « Déclaration des droits de lhomme et du citoyen », « Captivité de Lafayette » », et « stances dédiées au général Lafayette par ses compatriotes habitant New-York ». Est relié à la suite le très rare prospectus annonçant la publication du récit du voyage du général aux Etats Unis, précédent les deux premières livraisons (sur 4) de ce fameux récit, avec en frontispice un portrait lithographié de Lafayette par C. de lAsteyrie. Enfin est relié in-fine « Discours sur les améliorations des gouvernements, par Charles J. Ingersoll. Factitious collection dedicated to the Marquis de La Fayette comprising 4 rare texts in original editions published in the wake of his final and very popular trip to America. La Fayette's (1757-1834) participation in the American War of Independence earned him immense fame and a symbolic place as a link between the Americans and France and to be nicknamed "the hero of both worlds". His commitment to the cause at only 19 years of age and the circumstances of his departure from France, without the authorization of the king, financing the trip with his own money, made La Fayette the symbol of French support for the insurgents in America. In 1824, La Fayette was 66 years old when he undertook his last trip to America. The particularity of this tour, during which he criss-crossed the country, was that he was welcomed with an enthusiasm and popular fervor that lasted from his arrival in New York on August 16, 1824 until his departure on September 9, 1825. The first text in the collection is Dubergier's original French edition of the general's biography. This work traces the career of the war hero up to his journey in 1825. It ends with the chapters: "Lafayette in America", "Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen", "Lafayette's Captivity", and "Stanzas dedicated to General Lafayette by his compatriots living in New-York" (translated from French). Bound afterwards the very rare prospectus announcing the publication of the account of the general's trip to the United States, preceding the first two issues (out of 4) of this famous account, with a lithographed portrait of Lafayette by C. de l'Asteyrie as frontispiece. Finally is bound in-fine " Discourse on the improvements of governments, by Charles J. Ingersoll. Beautiful set preserved in its original binding.‎
