‎Bel exemplaire richement illustré de cet ouvrage consacré à lhistoire de la marine, des colonies et du commerce français par Paul Lacroix (1806-1884), polygraphe érudit français. Fondateur du journal « Le Gastronome » et Officier de la Légion dhonneur, Paul Lacroix fût un auteur aussi éclectique que productif tant son uvre semble être le fruit de plusieurs vies. Dès 1858, il est nommé membre des comités historiques du ministère de linstruction publique, pour lesquels il collabore à la publication dun très grand nombre douvrages. Dans le présent ouvrage et en première partie, lauteur relate lhistoire de la marine, avec en première sous-partie : « Son histoire depuis les gaulois jusquà Henri IV » et une dernière intitulée : « Depuis Richelieu jusquà la Révolution ». Dans une seconde partie, il sintéresse à celle des colonies et débute par « Jean de Bethencourt aux îles Canaries », pour finir par : « Inde ». Enfin, dans une troisième et ultime partie, il est question du commerce une première sous-partie intitulée : « Depuis la Gaule romaine jusquà la découverte de lAmérique » et une dernière titrée : « Depuis la mort de Colbert jusquen 1789 ». A beautifully illustrated copy of this book devoted to the history of the French navy, colonies and trade by Paul Lacroix (1806-1884), a French scholarly polygraphist. Founder of the newspaper "Le Gastronome" and Officer of the Legion of Honor, Paul Lacroix was an author as eclectic as he was productive as his work seems to be the fruit of many lives. As early as 1858, he was appointed member of the historical committees of the Ministry of Public Education, for which he collaborated in the publication of a very large number of works. In the present work and in the first part, the author relates the history of the navy, with a first subpart entitled: "Its history from the Gauls to Henri IV" [translated from French] and a last one entitled: "From Richelieu to the Revolution" [translated from French]. In a second part, he is interested in the history of the colonies and begins with "Jean de Bethencourt in the Canary Islands", to finish with "Jean de Bethencourt in the Canary Islands" [translated from French], to finish with "India" [translated from French]. Finally, in a third and final part, it is about trade, a first subpart entitled: "From Roman Gaul to the discovery of America" [translated from French] and a last one entitled: "Since the death of Colbert until 1789" [translated from French]. A well-preserved copy, enriched with 149 engravings captioned in the text and full-page accompanying the account.‎
