Carte gravée ornée d'un cartouche de titre animé de personnages et décoré d'attributs militaires. Reconnu comme le fondateur de la cartographie française, Nicolas Sanson quitta sa ville natale d'Abbeville pour Paris, où il rencontra Richelieu en 1627. Ce dernier, très impressionné par son oeuvre cartographique, le présenta au roi Louis XIII qui le nomma Géographe Ordinaire du Roi. Il fut le premier, en France, à concevoir un atlas mondial et publia près de trois cents cartes. Bel exemplaire aux contours aquarellés à l'époque.
