Très grande carte touristique de l'Écosse, dessinée par Frederick Griffin et publiée vers 1960 par The Scottish Tourist Board, organisation de tourisme fondée en 1945, aujourd'hui connue sous le nom de VisitScotland. Cette carte a été conçue dans le cadre d'une campagne pour la promotion du tourisme en Écosse, mettant l'accent sur l'histoire de l'île, illustrée de nombreuses vignettes représentant des sites et personnages historiques. Ainsi, dans la ville de Lanark, on peut voir une représentation de Lord William Wallace, l'une des principales figures de la résistance écossaise contre l'Angleterre, tuant le shérif anglais de Lanark, William de Heselrig, en 1296. La carte est décorée des armoiries de l'Écosse et de seize villes écossaises. En carton en haut à droite, carte des îles Shetland et Orcades. Les symboles utilisés se rapportent aux villes et villages, ports, aéroports, stations balnéaires, sites de pêche, châteaux, abbayes, prieurés et monastères, et cathédrales. La carte figure également les routes principales, les limites des comtés, les routes maritimes et les principales routes ferroviaires. La mer du Nord est décorée d'une rose des vents. L'artiste anglais Frederick Griffin (1906-1976) a réalisé de nombreuses affiches de voyage pour les chemins de fer et les compagnies aériennes britanniques. Bon exemplaire. Traces de bande adhésive dans les marges, papier légèrement froissé par endroits.

A stunning authentic reproduction Map of the Kingdome of Scotland circa 1610, on quality parchment paper, with a superb ‘aged’ look to the map, when King James the sixth of Scotland and first of England was on the throne with his wife Queen Anne. Made in its day by the foremost map makers of the day John Speed, who was commissioned by the King to map his Kingdom of Scotland.Depicting King James and Queen Anne in the margins it also depicts King James sons Henry Prince of Wales and Ireland, who sadly died of typhoid fever in 1612 aged 18 also Charles Duke of York and Albany., Later King Charles the first. Set uniformly bound in quarter vellum, with marbled boards and end papers, edges painted red. Spines decorated with gilt and with two labels. From the library of Greenshields-Leadbetter of Stobieside . His ex-libris tipped on to the first fly leaf in every volume. Also a later ex-libris of Mr. Blackwood Greenshields ( on the first paste down). Very fine copy in very handsome bindings. For the sake of completeness we mention as only defect the browning and staining a few plates in vols. 3 & 4. Complete set of the most important archaeological and historical periodical published in Scotland in the 19th c.. It started in the 18th century (1792 !) and ran until 1890. In this year it merged with the Society's Proceedings."
