‎CALVIN, Jean‎
‎Ordonnances ecclesiastiques.

GLN-892. USTC 5941. Brunet , Manuel du Libraire I, 1507. /// In-8 de 124, (8) pp. [A-G8, H6, 4] Maroquin brun, dos à nerfs, tranches dorées. (Reliure de Hans Asper.) //// Organisation of the Church of Geneva, schools and ordinances on morals. These ordinances, dated November 13, 1561, are largely the work of Calvin. One learns here the punishments incurred for the "paillards". The adultery of a married man with a married woman is punished by death. And vice versa. There are two issues of this text, the first one is dated 1577, the next one like this one contains in addition the "Edits et ordonnnances de la cité de Geneve sur les crimes de paillardise et adulteres" with a particular pagination and which seems to be missing in the copy of the library of Geneva which is digitized. Two blank leaves H7 and H8 are missing. The copy has been washed at the time of binding, with a restoration in the margin of the title page and at the corner of the last leaves. The binding is signed by Hans Asper, bookbinder from Geneva, active from 1874 to 1911. Copy of Ernest Stroehlin with his bookplate engraved by Champel representing Jean Calvin, with the motto "Mente libera". (N° 1472 of his 1912 sale). /// PLUS DE PHOTOS SUR WWW.LATUDE.NET‎
