‎NEWTON, Isaac‎
‎The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy‎

‎London, printed for Benjamin Motte, 1729, in-8, 2 vol. in-8 : [38]-320 pp. 26 pl. Elle était, selon Einstein, sans doute l'une des plus grandes avancées intellectuelles qu'un homme put faire ("Perhaps the greatest intellectual stride that it has ever been granted to any man to make"). Babson, 20; Gray, 23, PMM; 161 : " The Principae provided a great synthesis of the cosmos, proving its physical unity."; Bernard Cohen, Introduction in The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy, 1968, I-XVII pp. Couverture rigide‎

‎The Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy‎

‎Londres, Dawnsons of Pall Mall, 1968, in-8, 2 tomes : XVII-[38]-320 pp. 26 pl. "The Principia is generally described as the greatest work in the history of science. These provided the great synthesis of the cosmos, proving finally its physical unity. Newton showed that the important and dramatic aspects of nature that were subject to the universal law of gravitation could be explained, in mathematical terms, within a single physical theory. With him the separation of natural and supernatural, of sublunar and superlunar worlds disappeared". PMM, 161. Couverture rigide‎
