Prolongeant la grande tradition de la statuaire en bronze, son œuvre forge après la Seconde Guerre mondiale de nouvelles images de l'homme et de la femme, jouant de l'assemblage et des hybridations avec les formes de la nature. Plus de soixante-cinq ans plus tard, la rétrospective organisée conjointement par le Centre Pompidou et le musée Fabre porte un nouveau regard sur cette artiste majeure.</p><p data-mce-fragment="1">Synthèse des recherches les plus récentes, le catalogue témoigne de la place centrale de Germaine Richier en son temps et, plus largement, de son impact décisif dans l'histoire de la sculpture du xxe siècle. L'ouvrage réunit des essais qui reconsidèrent son œuvre tant sculpté que graphique. Des cartes blanches confiées à des écrivains tels que Mika Biermann, Marie Darrieussecq, Maryline Desbiolles, Philippe Lançon, mais aussi à la philosophe Geneviève Fraisse, l'anthropologue Charles Stépanoff et l'artiste ORLAN, témoignent des résonances contemporaines de sa sculpture, qui ne cesse de questionner notre rapport à la nature, à l'identité, à la finitude.
