‎London J. McGowan 1838 Première édition dans cette version (édition McGowan). Un beau « Book of Common Prayer » illustré de l'époque victorienne. Reliure intégrale en cuir brun foncé avec des dentelles dorées sur les plats et des motifs dorés sur le dos. Une étiquette en cuir noir portant le titre (presque effacée). La reliure est en bon état, avec seulement quelques légères traces d'usure. À l'intérieur, le livre lui-même est en très bon état, avec un léger noircissement et quelques rares rousseurs. Le texte est présenté dans un format assez grand, adapté aux églises sombres ! Accompagné de sept jolies planches gravées en pleine page représentant les sacrements (baptême, mariage, enterrement, etc.). La première est un frontispice montrant le prêtre exhortant les paroissiens. Deuxième titre gravé avec une vignette représentant la Vierge à l'Enfant Jésus. Au début de l'ouvrage se trouvent des tableaux indiquant les lectures quotidiennes, ce qui permet au lecteur de trouver facilement les passages appropriés. xxiv, 580 [ii] pages. Vient ensuite une nouvelle version des psaumes adaptée à des airs populaires. Celle-ci possède sa propre page de titre et sa propre pagination. 92 pages. 21 cm x 13 cm. Correspond en partie à WorldCat / OCLC : 32474848, qui indique une année d'impression postérieure et ne contient que le Livre de la prière commune principal, sans les psaumes qui suivent.‎

‎First edition thus (McGowan edition). An attractive early Victorian illustrated Book of Common Prayer. Full dark brown leather binding with gilt dentelles to the boards, gilt designs to the spine. A black leather label with title (almost rubbed away). The binding is in good condition, with a little rubbing only. Inside, the book itself is in very good condition, with fractional darkening and the odd foxing spot. The text is in quite a large format suitable for dark churches!. Owner's name and address in Dorset written to the front end paper, otherwise no annotations. Complete with seven attractive full page engraved plates showing the Sacraments (Baptism, marriage, burial etc.). The first is a frontis showing the priest exhorting the parishioners. Second engraved title with vignette of the virgin with the infant Jesus. To the beginning of the work are the tables showing the lessons for each day, making it easy for the reader to find the correct readings. xxiv, 580 [ii]. pages. Then follows a new version of the psalms fitted to popular tunes. This has its own title page and pagination. 92 pages. 21cm x 13cm. Partially matches WorldCat / OCLC: 32474848 which states the printing as a year later, and only has the main Book of Common Prayer, not the Psalms following. .‎

Gilt lineborders and broad gilt borders on covers. 6 raised bands, alternating profusely gilt compartments. Inside gilt borders. Outer edges of covers gilt. All edges gilt. Marbled endpapers. Heads of spineends gilt. A small neath repair to top of spine. 344 unnumbered leaves. First 2 and last 2 leaves blank. printed on good paper. Fine and clean throughout. On the first blank is written ""Bakman/ The Gift of the Bishop of Oxford 1765"". On pastedown 2 engraved bookplates of ""Hugh Bijshopp"" and ""Castle Goring"".‎

‎London William Pickering 1853 Première édition. Une réimpression ornée du livre de prières communes de la reine Élisabeth. Il s'agit d'une réimpression du livre de prières de 1569, mais mise à jour, avec des prières pour la restauration de la famille royale, des prières pour Charles le Martyr et des prières pour la reine Victoria. La reliure ornée est un peu ternie et frottée, mais reste attrayante. L'étiquette est manquante et ne montre donc que l'empreinte. Malheureusement, la page de titre et la gravure frontispice d'Elizabeth manquent également (les deux sont fournies en photocopie). Le livre commence donc par la page de garde. La page de garde est marquée et comporte des crayons de couleur. Sinon, les pages sont propres, mais il y a un peu de noircissement. Hormis la perte du titre, le livre est en bon état. Le dernier feuillet présente quelques taches d'encre. Il semblerait que le livre ait été ré-encadré sans les feuilles manquantes, car il n'y a pas de signe de perte. Porte l'ex-libris de Stephen Lewin de Boston. Peut-être l'architecte et urbaniste de Boston (Lincolnshire). Mary Byfield, de la Chiswick Press, a découpé les blocs de ce livre de prière commune orné et attrayant. Non paginé. a-AA5. 180 x 130 mm.‎

‎First edition thus. An ornate reprint of the book of Common Prayer of Queen Elizabeth. This is a reprint of the 1569 prayer book, but brought up to date, with prayers for the Restoration of the Royal Family, Prayers for Charles the Martyr and prayers for Queen Victoria included. The Ornate binding is a little dulled and rubbed, but still attractive. Label lacking, so only shows the imprint. Unfortunately, the title page and frontis engraving of Elizabeth are also lacking (both are supplied in photocopy). The book thus begins with the contents page. The contents page is marked and with crayon. Otherwise the pages are clean, but a touch of darkening. Apart from the loss of title, the book is in decent condition. The final leaf has some ink staining. It would seem that the book has been re-cased without the missing leaves, as there is no sign of loss. Bears the bookplate of Stephen Lewin of Boston. Possibly the architect and town planner from Boston Lincolnshire. Mary Byfield of the Chiswick Press cut the blocks of this ornate and attractive book of Common Prayer. Unpaginated. a-AA5. 180 by 130mm (7 by 5 inches). .‎
