‎Collection of 4 documents pertaining to the creation of a trading company in Fiume (then belonging to the Austrian Empire ) in 1759 by the Antwerp businessman Balthazar Proli.‎

‎"2. Fiume , 28th September 1759, 4 documents in-folio, manuscript on paper, written in ink. Margins frayed, with some loss of paper, dustsoiled. [1] Mémoire , 4 pp ( last pp blank). [2] Document ''B''. 1 pp. Demande d'un octroi pour l'exploitation des fôrets de Buccari. Request for an imperial patent for the exploitation of the forests of Baccari ( the actual Bakar in Croatia). [3] Document ''C''. 1 pp. Conditions du contract à faire avec les Entrepreneurs de Lisbonne, Cadix, ou France pour la livraison du Bois. (Conditions which should regulate the wood trade with Portugal, Spain and France. [4] Document ''E''. 1 pp. Plan économique pour l'administration du commerce des bois. ( A plan , consisting of 7 articles, regulating how the wood trade should be carried out. Document ''D'' and ''F'' of which is written in the ''Mémoire'' are not present here. This ''Mémoire'' and the three remaining additions are written in Fiume (in September 1759) by Balthazar Proli (1722 - 1804), brother of Charles Proli. These documents form a report on how to expand the activities of the ''Compagnie Priviligiée de Trieste et Fiume'' in e.g. the trade of lumber. This company was founded by Charles Proli and received the imperial patent on October 1st 1750. It existed until 1828. Provenance; from the archives of Charles de Proli ; photostat of a typed letter from 23 May 1945 refers to Theophile Smekens who was still occupied with Proli's bancruptcy in the late 19th c. ( see Denucé, Antwerps Archievenblad 2e reeks, 7 , 1932 nr.1). On this history of Proli's business initiatives see at length '' Charles Proli , Antwerps zakenman en bankier 1723 - 1786.'' Study by H. Houtman-De Smedt - published by the Brussels' Academy in 1983. The history of the company in Trieste and Fiume is described on pp. 69-87 . The presence of Charles' brother Baltazar in Fiume is not recorded in this study. On joint une belle sérigraphie originale en couleurs signée de l'artiste, avec son cachet d'atelier ("L'Isola del Gallo d'oro", 1987). Publié pour la célébration du 40e anniversaire de la constitution de la République italienne, conjointement à l'exposition au Sporting d'hiver de Monte Carlo, mai-juin 1987. Texte bilingue italien-français. Très bon état.‎

‎"2. S.l. (Antwerpen), manuscript on paper, written in ink, undated, (1750), in-folio, 20 pp ( last 6 pp blank) , written in French, very neat handwriting. (first page a bit stained and dustsoiled). Detailed business plan with organisational instructions for the establishment of a trading house in Trieste on behalve of the ''Compagnie Impériale...''. The plan consists of 44 articles and a conclusion. In article I is mentioned the starting capital of 500.000 German Florins.* This document , unquestionably, was drawn up by Charles Proli in his Antwerp office prior to the Imperial Patent of October 1st 1750 which regulated the foundation of the Company *Later documents all contain a higher amount of capital !.
