1890 half-title, title-page, xxi, 590 p., 27 (many partly tinted) engraved plates, large 4to (24.5 x 32 cm), not bound (as issued). No covers. Some foxing or marginal browning on a few pages, one page with a small chip out of blank margin, otherwise a very good unopened and uncut copy in excellent condition. Plates clean (except a tiny foxing spot on one or two plates).Part of the rare Hymenoptera section, with many new species and little known species. Published in the highly esteemed series of zoological contributions edited by Grandidier (father, and later, his son) on the unique fauna and flora of Madagascar. The partly colour-printed (two or three colours) plates are wonderfully executed and have great detail.

The whole ant-section, with many new species, from this highly esteemed series of zoological contributions to the unique fauna of Madagascar. Each part was written by a specialist, in this case the Swiss entomologist and psychiatrist Auguste Henri Forel (1848-1931). The complete text and plates. Spotting and soiling to the half title and pages 5-12. Plate 7 slightly foxed and right margin frayed due to larger size of this plate compared to the others. Rare. Nissen ZBI, 3602.

The whole ant-section, with many new species, from this highly esteemed series of zoological contributions to the unique fauna of Madagascar. Each part was written by a specialist, in this case the Swiss entomologist and psychiatrist Auguste [Henri] Forel (1848-1931). The complete text and plates. Spotting and soiling to pages 5-12 and 229-236. A few pages with a faint waterstain in outer corner. Plate 4 with some slight foxing. Rare. Nissen ZBI, 3602.

1891 v, 280 p., 7 tinted lithographed plates, large 4to, modern orange cloth with gilt title on spine. The vast majority of the ant species are described here for the first time. The plates are very detailed. A rather nice copy with broad margins. Plates with a faint waterstain in the right corner (only affecting one figure in first two plates), some foxing and soiling in the first 20 and last few pages, otherwise good. Rare. Cat. BM(NH) p. 593.
