De Grand Tour was in de 18de eeuw een must voor jongens en jonge mannen uit de Engelse upper class. Ter voltooiing van hun opleiding ? en om hun wilde haren kwijt te raken ? werden zij met privéleraren naar het buitenland ge stuurd, met Italië als voornaamste bestemming. Daar leerden ze de kunst en cultuur van de oudheid en renaissance kennen en legden ze nuttige contacten, deden ze vriendschappen voor het leven op en beleefden ze allerlei romances. Niet alleen de mannelijke jeugd ging op reis. Ook oudere heren trokken door Europa, en vrouwen, al dan niet in het gezelschap van hun echtgenoot. Soms gingen zelfs hele families op pad, met hun favoriete honden en al. Talloze bedienden reisden met hen mee, bepakt en bezakt voor de reis, die maanden, soms jaren kon duren. Onderweg kochten de Grand Tourists kunst werken en souvenirs als aandenken aan de reis. Sommigen sloegen op grote schaal aan het verzamelen. Terug in Engeland richtten zij met de aankopen hun grandioze huizen in. Deze publicatie vertelt het verhaal van de Grand Tour aan de hand van bijzondere kunstwerken en souvenirs uit de collecties van drie van Engelands mooiste landhuizen: Holkham Hall, Burghley House en Woburn Abbey. Ria Bosman (b. 1956, Beveren-Waas) is fascinated by colour and material. Her abstract oeuvre encompasses a wide range of works, including sketches and workbooks, works on paper, textile and object paintings, and monumental leather and textile structures. Her work lies at the interface between textile and painting, with a clear emphasis on the latter. A constant in her oeuvre is the systematic investigation of the effects of colour: on form, on other colours, on a variety of materials and on the surrounding space. Overwegingen is a publication by Posture Editions containing 75 works on paper. The drawings are like thought exercises, contemplative shifts, enigmatic rustlings, inner monologues, hesitant movements, whispers across fields of colour, rhythmic movements in the artist's studio. Some are preparations for her monumental fabrics, others are simply solfège for the mind. All drawings in the book were painted between 2020 and 2025 with acrylic paint on drawing blocks. Marieke De Maré, winner of the Confituur book prize for her recent novel ?Ik ga naar de schapen?. Especially for the book, she is writing a short story inspired by Ria's drawing series. This book is published in the context of the exhibition ?OP HET RITME VAN DE STILTE? (23.03?-?09.06.2025) and realised with the support of Be-Part Platform for Contemporary Art Kortrijk & Waregem.
