Köln, apud Geruinum Calenium & Heredes Quentelios, 1572 , in-4°, (4)nn pp + 508 + (22) pp, with woodcut device on title page and portrait on verso, printer's mark on verso of penultimate leaf. Some slight dampstaining at foot, a few leaves neatly repaired at lower inside corner, else a very good copy in 19th c. calf (pastiche binding), binding with slight use but very soundly rebacked. In all a very good copy. USTC N° 620539. VD16 K 2055. Our copy is complete with the extremely rare errata-leaf. Of the 10 copies listed in the VD16 catalogue only one is also complete with this errata leaf (Hannover Stadsbibliothek). This book is an early edition of the official Roman catechism as established at the Council of Trent ( 1545 - 1563). The first catechism was published in 1566. This new edition, still with the original privelege (September 1566) contains a new address from Pope Pius V (dated 3 November 1571) to the bishop Johann von Hoya of Osnabrück. Our copy belonged already very early to an English owner, some pages are marked in ink in an early hand and the title has the bold signature ''Ri. Standish'' on the title.
" Coloniae Agrippinae, ( Köln ), Apud haeredes Arnoldi Birckmanni, 1573, in-8°, 649 pp + (31) nn pp (index). Complete. Bound in somewhat later full leather, raised gilt spine. Upper joint broken but still holding, top turn in damaged, title label missing. Copy with a remarkably fine interior: no stains or finger markings. Apart from the defects at the binding's spine a very nice and attractive copy. USTC 620533. Only 7 copies listed ; of which only 1 ( British.Library London) outside the former Holy Roman Empire.. Very rare in this condition.."
