" The photograph (portrait format) is mounted on thick white board (size 63 x 48 cm) with printed ornamental olive-coloured border. The border bears the inscription :'' Vues de tout l'Orient'' - ''Par Bonfils, Phot. Allais (Gard) ''. On the back-side is a large tipped-on printed explanation of the photograph (in French, English and German). This explanation is signed in print: ''Alais, Typ.; J. Martin''. Albumen silver print from glass negative. The photograph is signed twice in the plate: [1] Bonfils 5 ; [2] Bonfils Photogrqph à Beyrouth vue de Balbek et de tout l'orient 1873. Both inscriptions by hand. The year indication of a Bonfils photograph is very rare. The picture shows the famous falling stone but now supported by a crude new square pillar. The Paul Getty museum shows a similar photograph (allthough in smaller size) dated 1872, without de new supporting pillar. This extraordinary large photograph is in fine condition, notwithstanding the margins of the board which show some foxing spots and dustsoiling. The board's corners are also a bit damaged with small loss of material,1 small spot just touching the lower margin of the picture.."
