Jacques Callot (1592-1635) was a nobleman of the county of Lorraine. He made this obtrusive suite on the horrors of war when he saw his country being invaded by the French in 1633. It became one of the most well-known anti-war statements in European art and was an inspiration for Goya's similar work, nearly 200 years later.
