" Paris, Madame veuve Prault; libraire L'Huillier, an XIV ( 1805), format in-12°, ( 16,5 cm), (4) nn pp + 115 pp, bound in contemporary vellum. The ''Manufacture des Glaces' was created in the 17th century by Colbert to counter the Venetian import in France of glass (mirrors and window panes). It was an extremely expensive product which damaged the French trade balance. The company became later Saint-Gobain. The state-contolled manufacturer published tariffs for their products to control the market and to fix prices for taxation purposes. These tariffs led also to (a desirable) standard in fabrication. This publication during the reign of Napoleon shows that the price-system continued after the collapse of the Ancien Régime. Rare original imprint with the manuscript ex-libris of a certain Jablin with his manuscript note that he bought this copy at the 'Palais Royal' 25th August 1810."
