‎Ireland N.P. C1875 Première édition. Une belle esquisse / caricature au crayon avec un vers de doggerel sur les tourbières d'Irlande. Pas de signature sur le texte ou l'esquisse. En haut, le titre est A view in Ireland. En bas, un homme et une femme s'enfoncent jusqu'à la taille dans une tourbière. Derrière eux, un cheval à l'air très indigné tire un buggy. Ceux-ci s'enfoncent également. En dessous, à l'encre, figure le texte Attachement à la terre natale. Impatient de traverser, les pensées de la maison, fraîches sur ses talons & les appellent vigoureusement dans beaucoup de tentatives vaines. Comme son âme est simple ! Quel noir désespoir, quelles horreurs remplissent son cur ! Sa terrible descente des tourbières infidèles ! Le tout sur une feuille de papier à lettres. Légèrement assombri, et une seule tache de rousseur. blanc au verso. Très léger pli au bord droit. La feuille semble avoir été retirée d'un livre d'autographes. Dans l'ensemble, un joli morceau d'humour irlandais. 19cm x 14cm. .‎

‎First edition. A lovely pencil sketch / caricature with a doggerel verse about the bogs of Ireland. No signature to the text or sketch. To the top is title A view in Ireland. Below is a man and woman sinking to their waists in a bog. Behind them a very indignant looking horse is pulling a buggy. These are also sinking. Below this, in ink, is the text "Attachment to one's native land. Impatient flouncing through, the thoughts of home, fresh on his heels & call them vigourously forth in many a vain attempt. How simple his soul! What black despair, what horrors fills his heart! His dire descent of faithless Bogs!" The whole on a sheet of writing paper. Slightly darkened, and a single foxing spot. blank to verso. Very slight crease to the right edge. The sheet looks as if it may have been removed from an autograph book. Overall a lovely piece of Irish humour. 19cm x 14cm. .‎
