‎Kiøbenhavn, J.D. Qvist, 1852-53. 8vo. Green cloth binding. Gilt title on spine. The book is in a very good condition, no obvious signs of use. Complete version with some few brown spots inside on some of the pages, otherwise very neat and clean. No worn edges or corners. Previous owner's name crossed out on title page. Some pencil writing on the first page. One of the pages is cut at the bottom, but nothing that affects the text. The book contains the first and second quarters with corrections. ‎

‎The original print. Extremely rare, in complete condition. Here are all 22 booklets of this journal, almost exclusively authored by Dreier himself and whose purpose was to be a mouthpiece for ""free, refreshing, reforming critique, for which the liberation of labor from the yoke of financial power is a major task"". With this, the work became the first socialist journal in Denmark, and Dreier has been characterized as Denmark's first socialist. Dreier became ill at the end of 1852, and thereafter the publication resumed in February 1853, with the additional publication of numbers 9-12 (of the 2nd quarter), which are included here. ""Samfundets Reform was published as a weekly with 22 numbers from April 1852 to February 28, 1853, with interruptions due to D.'s military service in June 1852 and illness. He wrote the entire content himself and dealt with issues such as capital and labor, ""municipal swinishness"" (shortly after the cholera epidemic broke out), the abolition of guilds, the expansion of the right to vote, the program for an independent labor party, the establishment of free trade unions and cooperative enterprises with public support, and more"" (DBL). Little is known about Dreier's life and profession, although it is documented that he cohabited with an unmarried partner and fathered a child who later emigrated to the United States. Active in the Association for the Welfare of the Working Class until his death in 1853, the precise cause of his death remains unknown, though it may have resulted from a stroke following a prolonged period of illness and forced exam reading. In 1848, Dreier made his literary debut with two short books, Folkenes Fremtid and Fremtidens Folkopdragelse, which established two prominent themes in his oeuvre: a pessimistic view of nationalism's future trajectory, and a belief in the importance of education as a foundation for the development of free, mature individuals critical for democratic participation.
