De son vrai nom Aron Goldenberg, il est né en Roumanie en 1896, participa à la Première guerre mondiale en tant qu'engagé volontaire, militant communiste opposé au stalinisme, il a traduit Marx, Engels, Rosa Luxemburg... Spartacus est son premier roman.
