(1802)

‎The works in Natural History of the Late Rev. Gilbert White. Comprising The Natural History of Selborne; The Naturalist's Calendar; and Miscellaneous Observations, extracted from his Papers. To which are added, A Calendar and Observations, by W. Markwich, esq.‎

‎London J. White, Fleet Street by T. Bensley, Bolt Court 1802 Première édition. "W. Key esq. With White's comps.

‎HOOKHAM FRERE, John‎

Reference : 4815

(1874)

‎The Works of the Right Honourable John Hookham Frere In Verse and Prose. In three volumes. Second edition. Revised with Additions.‎

‎London Basil Montagu Pickering 1874 Deuxième édition. Trois volumes. 22cm x 14cm.‎

‎Second edition. Three volumes. Uniform calf boards with gilt decoration and red and burgundy labels to the spine. The boards are slightly loose, and the binding a little cracked to the hinges, but still holding well. A little rubbing to the spine and edges, with some loss, but otherwise in clean condition. Marbled page edges. Internally clean and tidy with a little foxing only. Frere's complete works were published in 1871, with a memoir by his nephews W.E. and Sir Henry Bartie frere. This is the second enlarged edition. John Hookham Frere (1769-1846) was an English diplomat and author. His reputation now largely rests on his translations of Aristophanes. His "prospectus and specimen", a mock Arthurian poem, was used extensively by Byron in "Don Juan." Bookplate and signature of Reginald Heber Macaulay from his Eton master Francis St John Thackeray on the occasion of his leaving Eton in 1878. Macaulay (1858-1937) was an amateur English footballer who won the FA cup for the Old Etonians in 1882 and made an appearance for England in 1881. viii, 354., viii, 426., 436. pages. 22cm x 14cm. .‎

‎Ludwig Senfl (c.1490?1543): A Catalogue Raisonn of the Works and Sources. Vol. 1: Catalogue of the Works‎

‎, Brepols, 2019 Paperback, 682 pages, Size:180 x 240 mm, Illustrations:2 tables b/w., Language: English. ISBN 9782503584201.‎

‎Summary Until now, scholars have had an inadequate picture of the scope and transmission of the oeuvre of Ludwig Senfl (c.1490-1543), one of the most important Renaissance composers of the German-speaking lands. The current publication presents an extraordinary and exceptionally comprehensive catalogue raisonn for this Renaissance composer. Volume 1 of the two-volume set forms the catalogue of works (including lost and misattributed compositions). It is organized according to genre and provides a thorough description of every composition. Each entry includes a musical incipit, comments on the musical structure, and comprehensive information concerning the transmission and the authenticity of the composition in addition to many other details. In its layout, structure, and critical approach to Senfl's music, this volume enables far-reaching research into the composer's style as well as a detailed characterisation of his oeuvre, and thus it provides clues towards a long-desired chronology of the composer's works. The Senfl Catalogue serves as an encyclopaedic research tool for further scholarly investigation: it not only presents a lively and coherent picture of Senfl's oeuvre, but also helps to explore the broader musical culture of his time. At the same time, the in-depth presentation and analysis of Senfl's music provides Early Music performers with new information on repertory that adds to the soundscape of the Renaissance.
