De Nederlandse kunstenaar Jan Dibbets (? 1941) is een van de meest invloedrijke kunstenaars die op het einde van de jaren zestig de Europese bruggenbouwer was met de conceptuele kunst in Amerika. Zijn vroege werk met gras, neon en later zijn fameuze 'perspectiefcorrecties' leidde tot conceptuele vraagstellingen over hoe wij naar de wereld kijken. Jan Dibbets gebruikt de fotografie die hij manipuleert en als medium om de tuin leidt om kunst te maken waarin het esthetische in dialoog treedt met wiskunde, wetenschap en later met monochrome schilderkunst. In nauw overleg met met Jan Dibbets en Rudi Fuchs (directeur Documenta 1982) wordt dit magistrale oeuvre aan een breed publiek ontsloten. Een lijvig bk SM-cahier zal dit unieke project begeleiden. The first monograph covering Dibbets's iconic photographic oeuvre Dutchman Jan Dibbets ( b. 1941) is one of the principal artists to have introduced photography into the plastic arts, and this as early as the 1960s. At a time when photography has massively invaded contemporary art institutions?not without generating confusion and excess?it is not easy to evaluate the full radicality of Dibbets's approach. This radicalism has nothing to do with modernist overkill. Dibbets did not merely go further than others; rather, he simply went elsewhere. Beginning in 1967, he embarked on a long-range project which, as we advance into the 21st century, he seems not to have abandoned: the "pictorializing" of photography. Jan Dibbets is one of the few artists of his generation and reputation not to have seen his oeuvre accorded full monographic coverage. This exhaustive study seeks to fill this gap by covering almost fifty years of his photographic oeuvre.

This monograph is dedicated to Jan Dibbets, Dutch photographer born in Weert in 1941 who lives and works in Amsterdam, and it presents a vast and exhaustive excursus among the artist's most important works, beginning from his debut in the late 1960s to today. Among the pioneers of Conceptual Art, and part of the emergence of Land Art as well as Arte Povera, from the late 1960s Dibbets has been one of the very first to single out a use for photography as a 'thinking' tool, carrying out a revolution the consequences of which have been further amplified in the present digital age." In dialogue with some of the most salient moments of Western art culture, from Dutch painting to Italian art, and the relating theories on form and perspective, Dibbets's inquisitive mind knows how to create an innovative, individual course that has contributed in turn to establishing new artistic languages. The book, curated by Marcella Beccaria and Rudi Fuchs, include rare works, almost never shown in public in so far as housed for decades in private collections, and it is completed by the artis's biography.
