Je suis l'autre : c'est à la Bibliothèque impériale de Saint-Pétersbourg qu'un jeune apprenti bijoutier suisse a découvert la troublante formule que Gérard de Nerval, peu de temps avant sa mort, a inscrite au bas de son portrait par le graveur Gervais. Dans ce refus de sa propre image, Freddy Sauser a-t-il entendu l'injonction qu'il attendait ? L'autre pour lui, l'autre lui-même, ce sera donc le poète, mais un poète en mouvement perpétuel et brûlant ses vaisseaux. Pendant plus de quarante ans, il s'en fera une devise de vie et une règle d'écriture. Lorsqu'il se rend à New York, fin 1911, sa décision est déjà prise : il écrira. À son retour en Europe, il emporte avec lui son premier poème, Les Pâques, et pour le signer il emprunte à l'oiseau phénix le nom de l'autre : Blaise Cendrars. (Source : Gallimard)
