Cette œuvre est un poème épique médiéval qui raconte le voyage de Dante à travers l'Enfer, le Purgatoire et le Paradis. Dante, le protagoniste, est guidé à travers ces trois royaumes par le poète romain Virgile et par Béatrice, son amour idéalisé. Dans "L'Enfer", Dante décrit sa descente aux enfers, où il rencontre diverses âmes tourmentées et pécheurs qui sont punis pour leurs péchés dans des circonstances appropriées à leurs fautes. L'Enfer est divisé en neuf cercles, chacun destiné à des péchés spécifiques, allant des péchés les moins graves dans les cercles extérieurs aux péchés les plus graves dans les cercles intérieurs. Le dernier cercle, le neuvième, est réservé à Satan lui-même. Au cours de son voyage à travers l'Enfer, Dante explore les conséquences du péché, la justice divine et la nature de la punition éternelle. La "Divine Comédie" est une œuvre riche en symbolisme et en allégories, et elle est également une représentation de la théologie chrétienne médiévale. "L'Enfer" est la partie la plus célèbre de l'œuvre et a eu une influence profonde sur la culture occidentale.
