1855 half-title, title-page, 95, [33] p., 30 plates (all hand-coloured, plate 28 in photocopy), loose in half cloth with original printed boards (extremities worn). Plates nice and clean, except plates 2, 4, 5, 6, and 8 which have some foxing (mostly marginal). Plate 28 is missing (a photocopy is added).Genera des Coléoptères d'Europe was published in 4 volumes. This is the first part of volume four. The back board gives some details on the publication of this important work. It was planned to be published in 86 installments with 3 plates each. Every month two installments should be published. Of course this was wishful thinking, it took 12 years to finish this work. In all 29 fine hand-coloured plates depicting Curculionides (= Curculionidae), one of the largest families of beetles.

L'autore dopo i suoi studi in anatomia venne affiancato da celebri natualisti come il Buffon, Daubenton, Reaumur, Nollet, Rouelle, D'Holbach, D'Alembert e Diderot. Il suo dizionario naturale pubblicato per la prima volta nel 1764 venen tradotto in molte lingue diventando quasi un best-seller dell'epoca. Questa edizione era composta da nove volumi, siamo purtroppo in possesso solo del terzo e quarto contenente le lettere COR-IZQ. All'interno nozioni di zoologia, botanica, minerali, astronomia, descrizione di droghe semplici utilizzate in medicina, economia domestica e campestre, arti e mestieri (es. coralli, coriandolo, uccelli e insetti, cristalli, furetto, frutta, acque, confetti di Tivoli, ginseng, nicotiana, Circoncisione, infibulazione e castrazione ecc...). Bella legatura in mezza pelle ottocentesca con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso. In ottime condizioni e completi Copertina in mezza pelle con titolo e decorazioni in oro al dorso in ottime condizioni generali con lievi usure ai margini e dorso. Legatura in ottime condizioni. Pagine si presentano in buone condizioni con fioriture. Segno di tarlo al margine inferiore da pag. 331 a 378 con lieve perdita di testo da pag. 333 a 376. Edition of 1776 of this reasoned dictionary of universal history by the french naturalist Jacques Christophe de Valmont Bomare (1731-1807). the author after studying human anatomy was helped by famous naturalists as Buffon, Daubenton, Reaumur, Nollet, Rouelle, D'Holbach, D'Alembert and Diderot. His natural dictionary firstly published in 1764 was translated in different languages becoming a sort of best-seller for that time. This edition was made up of nine volumes, unfortunately we only have the third and fourth tome containing letters COR-IZQ. Inside notions of zoology, botany, minerals, astronomy, description of simple dryges used in medicine, home economy, arts and jobs (es. corals, coriander, birds and insects, crystals, fruit, water, confetti di Tivoli, ginseng, nicotiana, Circumcision, infibulation and castration ecc...). Beautiful half leather cover of XIX century with golden title and decorations in the spine. In very good conditions and complete.
