Jean Marie Léon Dufour (1780-1865), a French army surgeon, was a thorough and methodical anatomist, especially of arthropods. Some foxing in the text, the plates all folded at the bottom, as intended. A good copy. Horn-Schenkling, 5448; Nissen ZBI, 1178.

1833 pp. 129-463 and 19 plates, 4to, contemporary full calf. Important monograph on Hemiptera. Jean Marie Léon Dufour (1780-1865), a French army surgeon, was a thorough and methodical anatomist, especially of arthropods. Bookplate of the Radcliffe Observatory on front pastedown, back strip missing and boards detached, some light foxing in the text but overall a good copy. This is the complete volume IV of the Academy's Mémoirs. Nissen ZBI, 1178.

The main entomological work of the French zoologist André Marie Constant Duméril (1774-1860). A huge and rare compilation on the classification and history of insects and the most important treatise in this field from this period. Each genus is represented by a figured species and the etymology of the zoological names is explained. The first volume provides a general introduction to insects and the Coleoptera. The second includes the Orthoptera, Neuroptera, Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Lepidoptera, Diptera and other insect orders. Very good condition for such a heavy volume, uncut, unopened. A fine production with splendid wood-engravings which come from Émile Blanchard's "Métamorphoses, moeurs et instincts des insectes" (1868).
