‎Botaniste, l'auteur, nommé en 1851 membre de la commission scientifique de l'Algérie parcourt ce vaste territoire pour en étudier la flore. Son nom restera inséparable de la floristique nord-africaine pour laquelle ses travaux et son herbier constituent d'inestimables documents. (Voir Histoire de la botanique en France, 1954). Nous présentons ici son 1er rapport, un 2e parut en 1856. ‎
