This unique book presents the first visual history of today's most hotly collected records - the great movie and television soundtracks from the 1950s to the early 1970s, from Breakfast at Tiffany's and Thunderball to Mission: Impossible and Barbarella. The soundtrack albums of these and other classic movies are among the most prized collectibles today - recordings that summon up the secret agents, starlets, glamour and exotica of the past and set the mood for the "cool modern" lounge scene of today. The book showcases art, in brilliant full color, from nearly 300 of the greatest soundtrack covers, including many sought-after items by film music legends such as John Barry, Jerry Goldsmith, Henry Mancini, Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin. It is a must for record collectors, graphic designers and anyone into the new easy listening scene.

Noctuary ? the first publication of Ren e Lorie (b. 1989), a Brussels based photographer ? is a photografic journey into undefined landscapes and interiors. The black and white photographs are full of magical moments, uncertain feelings and surreal light. "A lot of images you see here were made during the end of a period of loss. Close beloved ones that passed away. When you go through this intense process of letting go, looking back, trying to hold on, forever is a strong compulsion. You want to latch onto these past certainties, in order to avoid the confrontation of constant change and dissociation, processes unique to life. Photography serves as a consolation to impossibly embrace what was."

The Ghent University library with its famous "Book Tower" was designed by Henry van de Velde in the 1930s. It re-opened recently after a long restoration process under the supervision of Robbrecht en Daem architecten. Book Tower Images focuses on the rich artistic imagery of the monument. Over the years, leading artists and photographers such as Frans Masereel, Lucien Herv , Candida H fer, and Carl De Keyzer have visualized it abundantly. Jan De Cock, Marie-Jo Lafontaine, Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and others realized installations or dance performances in the building that were documented with the help of photographs and films. Juxtaposing multiple images of the same building, Book Tower Images deals with various models of architectural representation: from typical modernist architectural photographs by Emile Sergysels from the 1940s to recent explorations by Dirk Braeckman, Geert Goiris, Aglaia Konrad, and Walter Vorjohann among many others. Book Tower Images combines architectural photography with a myriad of other artistic and photographic practices such as documentary photography, street photography, fashion shoots, photojournalism, amateur photography, painting, drawing, video, film et cetera - with, of course, the Book Tower as leitmotiv.

[EN] A leading exponent of European painting from the late 1980s to the early 2000s, Belgian artist Raoul De Keyser (1930-2012) started his career much earlier. This book focuses on De Keyser ?Ts hitherto understudied early works, including a catalogue raisonné of the paintings made between 1964 and 1980. De Keyser started painting in the 1940s but aborted his artistic career in the early 1950s, becoming a civil servant and journalist. Only in 1964, he took up painting again with works blending the in ,uence of Raveel, Dine, Held, and Noland. Soon, he developed his own idiom, evolving into a more subdued and abstract style in the 1970s. Based on extensive archival research, this book contains a wealth of artworks, photographs, posters, and documents that never have been published before.

Post, ex, Sub and dis - these are but a few of the prefixes that have been used to compose neologisms for describing the contemporary cityscape in Western Europe and North America. Terms such as posturban space, postsuburbia, exurbia, exopolis, suburban downtown, and disrubia are part of a dizzying collection of often hotly contested labels. The plethora of neologisms demonstrates how difficult it has become to name, map and analyze contemporary cityscape. To many observers, urban evironments and urban society have come to evince a radically chaotic and fragmented structure. This book explores how in recent decades the notion of fragmentation - a mainstay already of reflextions on ruban modernity - has acquired new meanings and how, within the current decentralized and centrifugal context, the urban landscape is constantly being deconstructed and reconstructed, both materially and discursively. Richly illustrated with work by artists and photographers who have visualized various new kinds of urban fragmentation, the volume brings toghether a series of essays on spatial, social, and cultural issues written by distinguished scholars and practioners from unusual variety of disciplines. It wil be especially usefull to students of urban planning, architecture, sociology, literature and the arts.

Summary The traditional view of monastic orders in late-medieval scholastic culture has been relatively muted. Beyond the Franciscan and Dominican orders, and to a far lesser extent, the Augustinians and Cistercians, the older monastic orders (and especially the Benedictines) played a smaller role in the university during the thirteenth through the fifteenth centuries. Yet if the library collection of Saint-Bertin is examined more carefully, one finds that many of the books were added by alumni of the University of Paris and Louvain, and in one instance, Cologne, and that as a whole, the monastery's collection reflected the changing currents within late medieval intellectual society. Science in the Monastery proposes to analyze Benedictine science using Saint-Bertin as a vehicle. Summary Dismantling the Medieval studies the paradoxical relationship of the early modern canonesses of Bouxi res with the medieval past of their institution. While various documentary, material, spatial, and immaterial legacies of that past remained a crucial presence in the convent's narrative of self, the canonesses also used and manipulated them to pursue and justify drastic changes in their organization and lifestyle. Thanks to an unusually rich and varied body of evidence, we are able to reconstruct in unprecedented detail this elite convent's highly flexible memory culture over a period of more than two centuries. Guiding the reader back through time, the book gradually reveals how and why the canonesses' connection to the medieval past lived on throughout many crises and transformations, including even the abbey's dissolution in 1971. Summary Judith of West Francia is one of the most enigmatic of Charlemagne's early descendants. The daughter of the king of West Francia and future emperor Charles the Bald and his wife Ermentrude, she was one of only a handful of Carolingian princesses who were destined for marriage. Over the course of her teenage years she married two successive kings of Wessex, became the first consecrated queen of England, was widowed twice, returned to Francia with an immense dowry, and sparked a major diplomatic incident when she eloped with a nobleman from Flanders called Baldwin. Eventually she married Baldwin in early 864, and together they established the dynasty of the counts of Flanders. In doing so the couple laid the groundwork for what would become one of the mightiest and most prestigious territorial principalities in north-western Europe in the tenth and eleventh centuries. But even in the tenth century, exceedingly few written memories of Judith's life survived. This explains why she was never the subject of a biography in the medieval or early modern eras, and why scholarship's understanding of her life and legacy remains highly fragmented. This volume sets the record straight, offering an accessible and interdisciplinary discussion of all relevant and documented aspects of Judith's life and legacy. Anton Henning, born in Berlin in 1964, whose artistic career since the mid-eighties has taken him to Berlin, London and New York. The self-educated Anton Henning paints, photographs, films, sculpts, draws, makes music, designs and builds whole rooms. He virtually challenges the risk of provoking misunderstandings and polarising them without directly addressing the political side. In the figurative sense he is dismantling the entire history of art up to the present day, in order to completely reconstruct it. A kind of artistic synthesis. In his first exhibition at the Tim van Laere Gallery, which is also his first individual exhibition in Belgium since his much acclaimed exhibition at SMAK in 2007, Anton Henning tries to define the highly subjective oscillating approach, between distinct conceptualism and pure intuition, in an exhibition with an impressively broad spectrum. Anton Henning?s art combines long-time prejudged antipodes with the same naturalness, it knows how to seduce contemporary excellent gastronomy with the present day. Anton Henning is a master of good and bad taste, ruthless (self) irony, humorous ambiguity and virtually loving precision and this is in all lightness and virtuosity.
