‎When I visited the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes de Cuba in Havana for the first time I was amazed to discover dozens of works by Flemish masters on the 5th floor of the building containing the Arte Universal department. Thanks to good relationships with the museum management and the curator of the Flemish and Dutch Art collection, Oscar Antu a Ben tez, and with the Belgian embassy in Havana, and also to relationships within the context of the Rubens House and city of Antwerp and given the support of Kunsten & Erfgoed, it was decided in collaboration with Paul Verbeeck, from the Verbeeck Van Dyck gallery in Antwerp, to invest in a scientific publication about this unexpected collection. Reciprocal visits and research in Cuba, Belgium and the Netherlands led, after almost three years, to this book, published and designed by Stockmans and printed within the group on the presses of De Bie Printing at Duffel. The book was officially presented in August 2016 in Havana by Philip Heylen, Alderman of Culture of the City of Antwerp, after it had already been introduced digitally during Semana Belga, organised by the Belgian embassy in Havana. During presentation of the book Philip Heylen also opened an exhibition of drawings by Old Masters from various collections in Antwerp. Deze catalogus is het resultaat van meer dan een jaar doorgedreven wetenschappelijk onderzoek en van de kruisbestuiving tussen een Vlaamse kunsthistoricus, Jonas Slegers, en een Cubaanse conservator, Oscar Antu a Ben tez. De catalogus schetst een mooi overzicht van de Vlaamse en Belgische meesters die in het Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Havana te zien zijn en het is de allereerste catalogus van n deelaspect binnen de collectie 'Arte Universal', namelijk deze van de Vlaamse schilderkunst. Het finale doel is een venster op de wereld, dat onderzoekers en liefhebbers van over heel de wereld kennis kunnen maken met de tot heden onbekende Vlaamse schatten in het museum. Het niet alledaagse verhaal van het ontstaan van de collectie is geschreven door Oscar Julio Antu a Ben tez: schilderijen die samengebracht zijn door de revolutie en geconsolideerd werden tot op vandaag. De effectieve catalogusnota's met het onderzoeksluik heb ik voor mijn rekening genomen: dit heeft geleid tot een eerste 'status quaestionis', waarbij zekere toeschrijvingen zijn gemaakt en andere werken dan weer aan andere of anonieme meesters zijn toegeschreven. In deze catalogus is geen onderscheid gemaakt tussen de verschillende schilderijen. De topstukken uit de collectie krijgen evenveel aandacht dan kopie n of onbekende meesters. ‎

‎Symbolae Facultatis Litterarum Lovaniensis - Series C : Linguistica 02. Er is, vooral de laatste twee decennia, nogal wat onderzoek naar de verwerving van taal verricht. Het grootste deel van het onderzoek betreft de verwerving van de moedertaal door peuters en kleuters. Het is duidelijk dat die op enkele jaren tijds een enorme vooruitgang boeken op alle gebieden van de grammatica en op gebied van de woordenschat. Als het kind naar de lagere school overgaat, is de taalverwerving evenwel nog niet voltooid. Toch heeft die taalontwikkeling na het zesde levensjaar veel minder aandacht van de onderzoekers gekregen. De vooruitgang van de kinderen is natuurlijk wel minder spectaculair dan de vorige jaren, maar - zoals uit het onderzoek blijkt - niettemin onmiskenbaar op het gebied van de woordenschat, de syntaxis en de flexiemorfologie. Naar de ontwikkeling van de lexicale morfologie is evenwel nauwelijks onderzoek verricht. Deze studie probeert die lacune aan te vullen. ‎

‎This book is an edition of Hieronymus Ammon?s Imitatio Crameriana, which is a compilation of forty heart emblems in imitation of Daniel Cramer?s Emblemata Sacra, and in the context of contemporary Nuremberg as a thriving centre of culture important as a theory of learning and translation. In 1649 Hieronymus Ammon, a town lawyer in Nuremberg, published a sophisticated bilingual emblem book in Latin and German under the title Imitatio Crameriana. The book is a compilation of forty heart emblems, imitations of Daniel Cramer's Emblemata Sacra. At this time Nuremberg was a centre of economic and political power, and boasted a thriving culture. The town's poets had a serious interest in rhetoric and poetics, and they showed an appreciation for the vernacular culture that was being promoted by the Sprachgesellschafften. In this context the notion of imitatio is important as a theory of learning and translation. Imitating classical patterns was considered a means to develop style through independent variation. Cramer's heart emblems were considered by Ammon and his friends as an ideal model. Even more so because they adhered to orthodox protestant dogma. Thus these emblems fulfilled the expectations of erudition and wit, while satisfying protestant principles of scripture. Most of the biblical mottoes were texts used for daily sermons in the Lutheran church. The substantial introduction is followed by a list of Ammon's Latin mottoes which are juxtaposed with their source mottoes in Cramer's emblems and accompanied by English translations; there is also a second list of the key motifs in the emblem pictures.
