‎Govert Flinck was een van de meest getalenteerde leerlingen van Rembrandt, maar hij was veel meer dan dat alleen. Na zijn leertijd ontwikkelde hij al gauw zijn eigen stijl waarmee hij een uitstekende reputatie bij zijn tijdgenoten opbouwde. Dit leidde er toe dat het Flinck was, die in 1659 de meest prestigieuze opdracht kreeg van alle schilders in Amsterdam in de zeventiende eeuw: de geschilderde decoraties van de galerijen van het nieuwe Stadhuis op de Dam. Zijn dood vier maanden later zorgde ervoor dat die decoraties nooit zijn uitgevoerd. Dit boek beschouwt Flinck vanuit het perspectief van zijn tijdgenoten: zijn familie, vrienden, zijn opdrachtgevers, zijn leermeesters, medekunstenaars en leerlingen, maar ook de dichters die zijn leven en werk bezongen. ‎Ritsart Gobyn (b. 1985) explores the boundaries of our perception in a subtly subversive way. His paintings on rough, unprimed canvas are covered with shreds of paper, smears and stains, tape, traces of pencil, dirt and dust. They are the traces of the creative process that have gathered on the canvas, while lying on the studio floor. The more attentively we look at the paintings, the more we start to doubt what we observe. The tape turns out to be a painted trompe l?oeil, as are the shreds of paper. What about the other traces? The perception tilts from accidental to deliberate, from reality to illusion, from process to product, and back again. ‎Summary The Medieval French text (9400 lines) known as Tiaudelet is here edited for the first time. It is a lively debate poem which translates Theodulus's Ecloga and adds a lengthy commentary to each stanza. It was last investigated in 1915 when A. Parducci published five modest extracts. It is found in a manuscript which represents a sort of vernacular 'Liber Catonianus', offering classical texts which formed the basis of the educational curriculum in the arts in French translation. It debates the value of two traditions: the classical and biblical, with the educational aim of increasing knowledge of classical and Scriptural narratives. As an appendix to the edition is provided the text of the only other French translation of Theodulus, by Jean Le F vre, as represented by the unique copy in the National Library of Scotland, of the early print by Jan Brulelou of Bruges.‎
